"Nobody gives you power. You just take it."

Setting aside the hackneyed production of some of Madonna's most iconic songs, I have to say that I am more disgusted with Glee's notions of what female empowerment is.  Women being treated poorly but refusing to say anything until a man steps in and rallies for their cause; a so-called strong woman being torn down by a comment about her hair; ( Read more... )

Yeah, I've noticed since late 2007 the so called "progressive" news media and it's entertainment arm (is there really a difference anymore?)have been projecting extreme sexual objectification of women and outright misogyny constantly. It's very bizarre to me how full circle we've come. Looking at some of the depictions of women in the 90s, I'm surprised that the female characters I grew up with were better written and their portrayers were more diverse. Would you see a character like Roseanne on television today? Probably not, and that makes me sad.

I've heard of Naruto but have never been exposed to it. I'll have to check it out though. Positive portrayals of strong women are nearly impossible to come by these days.

I love Annie Lennox. I was trying to think of a song to calm me down and this immediately came to mind. It's sad how old "Sisters are doin' it for themselves" is and how little things have changed.
