It's interesting that the initial "truth" of this episode is already revealed. So you, the audience, know that she is lying before the team is figuring it out.

I thought they were going to mention something about Sophie or that Gil was going to talk to Colette about what she went through, but there was none of that :(
I want more Foster!
Although I LOVEDDDDD when Cal was talking to LJ and he described his father. It was a side of Cal we rarely see, and I loved to see it.

I did too. He seemed genuinely upset when he was describing hiding in his bedroom waiting and praying for it to be over.

The episode should have ended with Cal and Gillian, not with Cal, Emily and Liam--although I like Liam.

I, too, was hoping there would be some mention of Sophie, or at least Cal being more protective of Gillian, but Gillian didn't seem very upset. Probably because they both believed that the kidnapper was someone close to the family. Way to suck the tension out right away.

and to realize that Cal didn't have a nice childhood. He was definitely hurt and angry over everything that happened to him.

If anyone got the promo for next week, could you please post it? Obviously not in this entry, but as a new one? Idk. It'd be great, as I don't live in the U.S. and we didn't get a promo.

Some people commented in the other thread about the missing face reading that the creators are trying not to deliver the loads of exposition regarding microexpressions that dominated seasons one to two.

I don't think the third season has done a very good job of showing the face reading without the exposition, but this episode was better than most: the face reading is the crux of each scene. However, I kind of wished the show would return to *visually* emphasizing it: as Lightman was pointing out the squint of a liar or a smile in the eyes, the scene could have cut to a close-up of this body language or shown some onscreen text to really bring it into focus.

I would like the visuals to focus on the deception detection, even if the dialogue isn't going to.

Yes, they could show more than tell. Sometimes the case in the episode is less emphasized than the character development, and sometimes in S3, to avoid constant repeating of "Oh, look, he shrugged one shoulder" one of the Lightman Group will comment to the person lying or an observer who doesn't know the science. Actually, I thought there was a lot of explaining this week. Using Anna--who is getting to be a better liar--and LJ (the boy who kidnapped his little sister) without bogging down the storytelling.

Seems like Cal is getting closer to confronting his relationship with his dad lately. He punched him and sent him away last week and this week Emily teased him a couple of times about being a bully. He's going to have to have that conversation with her at some point. He's already talked to her about his mom, but this is obviously more painful for him, esp. since he worries that he might take after his dad more than after his mom.
