I really love this. I think you captured each character perfectly. I love the little details about James hating being afraid and showing that Tonks is extremely competent, even if she gets overlooked for being clumsy.

I like. I think you did a nice job with Tonks and Remus having never written them before. I like the common theme of having a loved have to leave and not knowing if they're coming back/going to survive, quite heart wrenching. A small shocker when Harry doesn't leave Ginny, nice for her but I don't quite buy it. Harry would leave and do his duty, he's just that kind of guy don't you think? The selfless hero and all that.

*squees* This was good when I first read it, but now it's awesome! The quote really ties the stry together, and the theme of "it will be okay" is just so poignant. And starting each second with "X hates being..." is great. It gives the story structure without being over-the-top.

Perfect beginning, with James hating being afraid, and recognizing that this time it's different. That this time, there's nothing he can do.

But James' fear isn't rooted in doubt and impure trust. If it were, then he would be able to do something about it.
That's just it. It's not a fear he can do anything about, and that's what's driving him up the wall. You really GET James, you know that?

"Don't," James interrupts her. He doesn't want her to say it, doesn't want to hear her say it.
This is just so sad. And yet, they've been through so much. They deserve this moment of comfort, of pretending it will be okay.

"If his father is like me, it may even be better," Remus spits out.
Goddammit, Remus. You ARE good enough. Stop treating yourself like that.

hello :)

i quite enjoyed your story -- it feels very real and intense, and i love that you picked these three couples. they're very different couples but have a lot in common -- they're all fighters, they're courageous, they're vulnerable, they've suffered loss, they've found deep abiding love that raises the stakes so high.

i'm a harry/ginny fan, and your depiction of them post-war is very realistic and in-character, in my opinion. as much as harry will feel duty-bound to do the "right thing", i think at this point he is learning to draw the line, especially since he is learning to listen to ginny. she makes very good points about him not being trained, about how different the present situation is from the situation with voldemort. if anything, i think it was somewhat poor judgment on kingsley's part to include harry at this point (i love kingsley, i do, but, darnit that was a bad call) since he's not a trained auror yet.

i hope you write more harry/ginny stories :) thanks for sharing this with us! :D

I like this a lot! My favourite bit has to be the middle, with Tonks and Remus - I think it's tricky balancing the differing philosophies/perspectives of Remus and Tonks while keeping them both sympathetic, but my heart was breaking for both of them throughout.

Love the bittersweet foreshadowing with James's bit as well, and ending it off with Harry/Ginny was a beautiful way of showing how he, at least, got that happy ending. Very nicely done, thanks for this!
