So I'm thankful for the tags which have been able to help me find several good treatments and causes of diaper rash. My son is having a major outbreak which could be linked to some of the new foods I've introduced, but I'm also beginning to wonder if he's developing a reaction to his diaper cream. I already told you Luci had problems with sweet potatoes. She also could not use most mainstream diaper rash creams. Two worked for us: Weleda or straight zinc oxide (A&D is not bad for this).

See what seems strange to me is that the cream has worked so well for months now, so then I think it's the food, but the rash looks so much like my rash from aloe that I then I think it's the aloe.

I stopped the sweet potatos, and all food for several days and the rash cleared up mostly, but tried carrots yesterday and the rash came back big time and quickly.

What was the bath treatment that you mentioned. I thought I might try that. I'm also doing a bit of an experiment which may or may not work. I'm putting cream on one side, but not the other to see if it worsens or clears up.

Baking soda baths work miracles. Stops soreness and itching, reduces swelling, and dries up the rash. Oatmeal baths are nice too. Aveeno makes a nice oatmeal/buttermilk bath that really soothes itchy, burning rashes, if you don't want to make your own. I started making my own eventually, putting oatmeal in a food processor until it was a powder and adding powdered buttermilk.

It takes time for kids to develop allergies to things. They often will not react right away when you use something, their systems must develop a reaction to it. He could very well be reacting to the aloe, even if he never has before.

Jack had an allergic reaction to California Baby bubble bath. It only showed up in his diaper area.
