I've decided to spend this V-Day being the angry ACLU-happy queer activist I never get to be, and yell at all the heteronormativeness (heteronormalcy? heteronormation?) I see. At least until someone stuffs some dark chocolate into my mouth to shut me up. (This is now the bookstore's preferred method of shutting me up whenever I loudly complain that nobody writes bad self-help books about gay relationships like "Semes/Butch Dykes are from Mars, Ukes/Femme Dykes are from Venus" and puts them on sale for 20% off.)

(According to Wiki, Roy Mustang from FMA is considered a seme. WTF?)

I had no idea you were into yaoi. I had to resort to urbandictionary.com to find out what "seme" and "uke" meant. Took me a split second longer to realize that they weren't terms for lesbians.

I approve of ACLU activity.

Heteronormativitiy = the devil. Equality, acceptance and representation for all!

I'm actually not all that into yaoi (besides the usual "hey, pretty boys kissing", because invariably yaoi is all about the pretty boys). I know "seme" and "uke" from hanging around fanficrants and metaquotes.

And on second thought, it's really a good thing that nobody writes books like that about LGBT relationships, because I find those books really obnoxious. It's just the principle of the thing, y'know?

Does this mean I shouldn't call you to wish you happy Valentine's Day ( ... )

I should really check my friends list before I post.

Aw, you don't have to remove your post. LJ isn't a race, nor is duplicity disallowed. Years from now, my journal won't matter when you look back at memories of what you wanted to post. It's your journal, after all. Besides, what about all those people on your friends list who aren't on mine? They'll be missing out!

I think you should put your post back up. Plus, it reinforces mine. ^^

Take the day to appreciate being "single", because there are many benefits of being so, not the least of which is a sensation of absolute freedom.

And with so many friends at work and nearby at Stanford, can one truly say that one is "single"?

D'aw! I like that sentiment. It reminds me of something I saw on an LGBT-themed website (it was a link on a link on a page of something I was looking up for the AIDS project so I can't be arsed to find it again) - one of the ways to make V-Day your own and ignore the happy heterosexually-coupled thing Hallmark promotes is to make it about love of all kinds - familial, platonic, friendship, etc.

(Out of curiosity: Google peeps, do you guys find it's possible to go hang out with each other every so often, or do you stay mostly segregated into your own areas?)

I have yet to see Inga or Bergy (or Daniel, I think he does something vaguely numbery here). With Inga and I, we work in buildings that are very far apart, and we have different schedules. Bergy's in Dublin, so yeah. But he might be back now, not sure.

Interesting question. What brought it up?

Not much - I was just talking to people in class about how I went to Stanford over the weekend, and it came up that a lot of SGS people are still in the area and several of them work for Google. (Several being four, apparently. My estimate was off.) Someone else commented that it must be cool to work with your friends, and it occurred to me that I didn't know if you guys actually do manage to work together, or even in the same proximity. I'd forgotten that Google is basically a campus and therefore huge.
