Hello Again

Hey, long time no talk. Sorry about that. Things are crazy, and I still don't have an internet connection at home, so I just haven't had much opportunity to post.

I watched a really interesting documentary yesterday that I've been meaning to see forever, Lake of Fire. It's a really long, really GRAPHIC black & white documentary on the abortion ( Read more... )

++ So, John Edwards had an affair. ::sighs:: I'm disappointed but not terribly surprised. Democratic politicians have a hard time keeping it in their pants. All I can hope is that Obama didn't have an affair, or if he did, that it won't come out until after the election. That's the last thing we need.

On the plus side, when Democrats whip it out, they don't bother to pretend that they're not gay. Also, I've never heard of a Democrat pedophile (not to say that they don't exist, but they don't seem to run for office).

It does seem that when politicians get caught cheating, with Democrats it's some ugly 40 year old bleach blonde chick, and when Republicans get caught cheating, it's like, a teenaged boy.

Well, with the exception of Gerry Studds, of course.

We do have the astounding ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

On the other hand, all the many, many Democratic philanderers have been excellent presidents, while non-cheating Republicans.... well, you know.

I'd much rather have a Democratic president that fucks around on his wife than a Republican who's fucking around on like, the entire American people.

I was thinking about the whole corporate whore sellout thing, and it seems at this point that since name recognition is key - and, unfortunately, not ability or platform - the way to win is to have the most money, and you get that from the corporations. I hate this. In a perfect society, the best candidate would be able to take out a few ads in newspapers that spell out, "This is who I am, this is what I do," and be done with it. But no. They have to get hundreds of TV spots to make sure everybody has seen their name and their face and in a positive light, because they will no doubt have to combat the negative ads of their opponents.

Makes me sad. Ugh.

Our election process is such that you pretty much *have* to be a corporate whore to get into office. It's really depressing.

And since that seems to be the case, I have this silly dream that Obama will take all that money, win the election, and then tell the corporations and all those other greedy, grasping motherfuckers to go fuck themselves.

Like I said, it's a dream. Makes me wish I was on drugs....

You know, I like Taibbi, but I've read a lot of things from economists other than the ones he quotes - and they've said the reason Obama's got more support on Wall Street is multi-pronged: they feel he understands the economy more than McCain (granted, my DOG does); they feel that his presidency would be more beneficial to the economy - not necessarily via any laws he might be able to enact, but based on many nebulous things like public perception, how change-perception could trigger more consumer investment confidence.

also, his bit about how now only 45% of donations come from under $200? I really wonder if that's taking into consideration ppl who've CUMULATIVELY donated more, but do their donations in small bits (like me).
