Oh Geez

This article in today's WaPo about how young feminists are split between Clinton & Obama was interesting, but it left me feeling kind of eyeroll-y. Like, who ever said all feminists needed to be one monolithic voting bloc? We're not like the evangelicals - we can make up our own minds, you know ( Read more... )

Yeah, I'm pretty sure there's a good reason that question is rarely asked.

WORD.

See, that's one reason that the polls were all so screwed - they're trying to guestimate what a diverse population of individuals will do based on a small group and it doesn't work.

We really are! I think that's one of the great things about feminists, liberals, Democrats, etc - we're not some army of lock-step voters who can't think for ourselves.

Exactly, makes total sense. Liberals are all about getting people to think for themselves and make informed choices.

That's why it would be so great if Hillary or Obama or Edwards got into office and instituted Universal Healthcare through the government - no more pesky choices about what plan to get! You only get one, and I for one am positive that a bloated buerocracy with no oversight (like FEMA during Katrina) will have no trouble at all providing Healthcare for everyone. It will be like getting Healthcare at the DMV! What could be better than that?

Then comes the convenience of Universal Pre-K which makes it so you don't have to choose how to raise your own child! And higher taxes will make it much easier to choose how to spend your money ( ... )

"Everybody who knows me thinks of me as a feminist," Keller said. "Nobody imagined I wouldn't vote for Clinton."

GAH. I'm glad that this girl also said: "I don't think gender is a good enough reason on its own to vote for or against anybody. I'm sure there are going to be other women in my generation, soon, who are able to run for president. This isn't like our only chance."

The 2 are not mutually exclusive! I will vote for the PERSON who most fits my views. I don't care if male or female. Part of feminism, to me, is about not putting one gender above the other, but evaluating on merits.

And then, of course, there's the bit of me that gets annoyed by people telling me how I should vote because I'm a liberal or woman or WHATEVER reason. Dude, it's more likely to push me the other way ( ... )

See, I'm a Hillary supporter, but I think anyone who's voting for her solely because she's a woman is missing the entire point.

Part of feminism, to me, is about not putting one gender above the other, but evaluating on merits.

Amen, sister!

I'm a young feminist who's for Hillary, who make the case for her to every Obama fan I know, and I'm definitely not doing it JUST BECAUSE SHE'S GOT A UTERUS. So, like, take that, WaPo. And no, we're not all one big giant voting group of estrogen. Feminists have brains, which we use to make CHOICES. Jeez, media, why.

My joy of the day was actually a quote of Hillary's ("That is certainly the kindest offer I've had in a while, but I'd probably get arrested!", to the dude who asked her to marry him), but my favourite Bushism was the one about Bin Laden not appreciating the miracle of Channukah. Like, uhm, wow.
