Iraq... and Iran

Aug 22, 2007 16:58

This article is from a couple weeks ago, but I found it illuminating. The soldier who blew the whistle on Abu Ghraib has gotten grief for what he did - from people here in the U.S. His colleagues in Iraq mostly supported him, but the backlash in his hometown has forced him and his family to move and change jobs ( Read more... )

I think the highlight of this month was Jon Stewart's segment where he hammered a guy over all the crap we, the anti-war body, has gotten, and all of the 'traitor' accusations that WE keep getting, as though somehow the fact that we don't want people to die is unpatriotic. I nearly danced for joy. Either way, I think one of my biggest sources of irritation (translation : RAGE) has been the yellow ribbon-carriers who tout their 'SUPPPOOORRT DAA TROOOPPS!' motto, and then....don't support them. Honestly, that whistle blower was putting his neck on the line to be a decent human being, and THIS is what he's getting? Disgusting. Ugh.

Oh, god, Iran. I get a headache just thinking about it. I'm not even bothering to broach the topic with my Persian friends because they're so on-edge and I don't want them to have nervous breakdowns. ACK.

Ick, I HATE Sarkozy, and if he drags France into the war (I'm moving there in two years), I'll hurl. NOOOOOOO. I'll have JUST gotten out. YOU CANNOT DO THIS TO ME, SARKO, YOU ASS. :( Sob.

Although, the upside of the yellow ribbons is the yellow ribbon parodies. I saw a red, white and blue ribbon in that mold, and I expected it to be the usual, but when I got close enough to read the text it said something like, "Just keep pretending it's ok." Hee ( ... )

I love the parodies, too. Some are on the more serious side ('Support the Troops : BRING THEM HOME'), but some are just hil-ar-ious. I want one!

IMPEACH NOW PLEASE. (And take Cheney too; the only thing worse than Bush is The Master Puppeteer.) Take a note out of Olbermann's book, man.

Yeah, it would give me a kick if France hauled us outta there. (And give me major vindication, since I've been defending France for six years now.) I just feel that the media would put the 'France comes to its senses' spin on it, which would piss me off to no end. (O'Reilly would totally go there; the king of the assholes cannnnnot surreeender! Nevah!) Although, the MSF guy sounds legit and rational (ILU, France!), so I do feel a bit hopeful. Maybe. Is it too early to use that word? Dammit, JINXED. :(

I'd want one too, except I know too many people wouldn't notice it was a parody. Also, I have no political bumperstickers on my car (other than the Howard Dean one)... there are just too many to choose from.

IMPEACH NOW PLEASE.

Agree. At this point, it's not even all about stopping Bush... it's also about precedent. If we don't impeach him now, we're going to have imperial presidencies from now on.

Check out the vid I just added... it hurts my brain.

Yay the French!
