Iraq... and Iran

Aug 22, 2007 16:58

This article is from a couple weeks ago, but I found it illuminating. The soldier who blew the whistle on Abu Ghraib has gotten grief for what he did - from people here in the U.S. His colleagues in Iraq mostly supported him, but the backlash in his hometown has forced him and his family to move and change jobs ( Read more... )

Although, the upside of the yellow ribbons is the yellow ribbon parodies. I saw a red, white and blue ribbon in that mold, and I expected it to be the usual, but when I got close enough to read the text it said something like, "Just keep pretending it's ok." Hee!

The Iran thing is serious hide-under-the-covers territory for me. I could smack the Bush Dog Dems who removed the "oh and btw you can't attack Iran without asking us" language from the funding authorization. (Not that it would necessarily stop Bush, but I'd hope him going to war without asking Congress would finally put impeachment on the table.)

I get the not wanting to get France into the quagmire too thing, but the guy calling for it was the Medicins San Frontieres founder, so he may actually mean actual reconstruction help. (As opposed to just funnelling endless money to Halliburton to do nothing.) And you gotta admit, it would be pretty hilarious if France hauled our bacon out of the fire. Bill O'Reilly's head would explode, for one thing.

But I don't much like or trust Sarkozy either, so... I guess I shouldn't be all faaaaites çaaaaa.

I love the parodies, too. Some are on the more serious side ('Support the Troops : BRING THEM HOME'), but some are just hil-ar-ious. I want one!

IMPEACH NOW PLEASE. (And take Cheney too; the only thing worse than Bush is The Master Puppeteer.) Take a note out of Olbermann's book, man.

Yeah, it would give me a kick if France hauled us outta there. (And give me major vindication, since I've been defending France for six years now.) I just feel that the media would put the 'France comes to its senses' spin on it, which would piss me off to no end. (O'Reilly would totally go there; the king of the assholes cannnnnot surreeender! Nevah!) Although, the MSF guy sounds legit and rational (ILU, France!), so I do feel a bit hopeful. Maybe. Is it too early to use that word? Dammit, JINXED. :(

I'd want one too, except I know too many people wouldn't notice it was a parody. Also, I have no political bumperstickers on my car (other than the Howard Dean one)... there are just too many to choose from.

IMPEACH NOW PLEASE.

Agree. At this point, it's not even all about stopping Bush... it's also about precedent. If we don't impeach him now, we're going to have imperial presidencies from now on.

Check out the vid I just added... it hurts my brain.

Yay the French!

33% of FOX viewers believed that WMDs were found in Iraq

Oh man. Oh. MAN. My brain doesn't hurt. IT ACHES.

I'm surprised he didn't include the ridiculous percentage of Americans who still think Saddam was directly involved in planning 9-11.

I dunno about you, but I think my poor brain needs ice cream. :p

My fave parody was a yellow ribbon magnet that states "I SUPPORT the guy in China who makes these magnets."
