This sort of stuff has never stopped happening, it's just that now people like this feel emboldened to be public about it. And why wouldnt they, given the current state of American politics?
Exactly. It's not a surprise to me that there are racists. It's a bit of a surprise to me what they think they can get away with. That's the "lost their damn minds" part. I suppose Allen hasn't gotten away with it, that's some comfort... but apparently no one's picking up on the little boy kicked out of church story. >:(
JESUS H. CHRIST. (yes, I have a macro) You know, I live in Mississippi, and for the most part, it's a peacefully bi/tri/quad/who-knows-how-many-races-melting-pot here, and then some dickwad, in the *name of GOD*... I can't speak. I just can't. I may start screaming and never stop.
It seems the other church members are disputing the pastor's take on why they had the kid leave... so maybe they just said "he's not a good fit for our church," not, "we can't have his kind here." Dogwhistle racism. I'm at least a little comforted that the pastor and the cop wouldn't go along with it.
I honestly think some of it is due to the "it's okay" attitude Americans have toward gays - if it's okay to hate one group, it's okay to hate another. Start with gays, and Arabs, and why not add other dark-skinned folks, while we're at it?
One peg gets pulled, then another, then another...
