When the President Talks To God

... I get really antsy. From AP: Bush Calls U.S. a Nation of Prayer
WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush said Thursday that America's history is inexorably tied to prayer.

"America is a nation of prayer. It's impossible to tell the story of our nation without telling the story of people who pray," Bush said during a White House celebration of the ( Read more... )

I agree with you. I don't feel like I need a politician talking to me about prayer - I feel like it is a private thing for myself, having it politicized makes it seem less than what it can be.

I saw an AP article about a coming election campaign in MN. I thought it was interesting.

i pray for people especially when i feel that they're misguided and need strength and light.

i actually think it's funny that bush thinks that all these prayers he receives are compliments and gifts. were i in his shoes, i'd take that as a sign that people were mighty worried about me and the path i'm traveling.

Yep. Although I've been a Pagan for over twenty years I have relatives that are liberal and moderate Baptists. When I hear that phrase, what you said is the first thing that comes to my mind! That's how people I knew growing up used it.

Yeah, I pray for him. I pray that one day the wizard gives him a brain, a heart AND a conscience.

I don't find these particular comment by Bush all that objectionable - lots of not-so-religious Presidents over the years have said similar things. OTOH, what scares me about Bush is that I often feel that his idea of 'prayer' is not merely reflecting and hoping God will help him choose wisely, but that he actually thinks God is literally telling him what to do.
