Integrity in Journalism & Pet Peeves

Dude... another one?!? No, for real, another one?!? YES, ANOTHER ONE OMG.

::head explodes::

On a seperate note, Kos hit on one of my pet peeves earlier tonight, Hillary bashing.
Look, there isn't a single person that has suffered worse at the hands of the Right Wing Noise Machine and the Corporate Media. She has borne the brunt of attacks that ( Read more... )

Do you mind telling me either here or in a separate post (kind of in the way of the "rant or rave" meme going around) what you love so much about her? I'm just genuinely interested in hearing what you have to say.Well, it's a couple things. First of all, you have to understand that the Clintons are rock stars to me. They came about when I was 13 and just starting to understand government & politics in general. I knew since I was probably 8 that I identified with the Democrats but it wasn't until Bill & Hillary (and Al & Tipper as well) that I went, "Oooh, I wanna be like THEM ( ... )

I'm not a fan of the pick, because I think we can do better and, selfishly, because I don't feel like hearing Rush et al go batshit crazy about it.

That said, I think I'd like someone a little more qualified for the office than being a one term senator who happens to be married to a guy that I like. That's just me, though. Not a bash, just...y'know.

No, I know you're not bashing. And I can definitely see the wisdom in having more experience. She's only been there for 4 years and still has a ton to learn.

I like Hillary a lot, but I'm afraid if she runs there's no way she'll beat the Republican candidate. Too many people hate her. We need a Southern Democrat to run--like on West Wing. *g*

I think they should start her off at VP, but maybe not in 2008.

Laura Bush scares me, too. I so wish we didn't share a name.

Jeb Barlett to the rescue!! Yeah, we totally need a Southern candidate. Or maybe a Californian. Something like that.

I like the Hillary VP idea, but I'm thinking she's tired of being second fiddle after all these years. I'm still holding out on the getting-more-experience, hedging her bets philosophy.

Laura Bush is obviously a femmebot. I think I've seen Barney gnawing on her wiring a couple times!

For awhile I was thinking, "It's dumb to make our candidate the person the right hates and villifies most." And then I was like... Fuck that. We shouldn't let the right dictate our candidates, dammit. They pissed on a decorated war hero like he was an Abu Ghraib prisoner. Next time, let's nominate a biracial lesbian Unitarian minister from Massachusetts whose partner wife runs a sex toy shop. Ok, she wouldn't win, but it might be fun to see them go apoplectic, and literally foam at the mouth ( ... )

Dude, SERIOUSLY. I'm all over that. We've had this arguement before... I felt like we went for the "safe" guy when we should have gone for Dean. The safe guy didn't work, so now I figure we should go for the most outlandish, insane and unelectable candidate we can find. Fuck! I'd go for Al Sharpton at this point.

::sigh:: But you know... maybe it all happened for a reason. Kerry turned out to be nothing like I imagined him, and even though I crushed he's not in the White House, I'm very grateful he's still in the Senate. Did you see his "Kids First" initiative? I was so proud of him.

In all seriousness, I don't want Hillary to be the nominee simply because I do disagree with her so much of the time. On a strategical level, I don't think she has the kind of persuasive speaking ability and warmth that Bill did, and that Kerry lacked. That's a much better arguement than I usually ( ... )

I'd go for Al Sharpton at this point.

Speaking of Sharpton, I was so disappointed when I realized that new anchor guy... Brian Williams... whom I ADORED on the Daily Show... was the same guy who said to Sharpton, "While you were riffing on whatever you were riffing on" after his D.N.C. speech. Um, what? What, do you need the pre-prepared Cliff Notes version of the speech in order to respond intelligently to it? It's not like his subject wasn't clear. It's not like he didn't give perhaps the best speech of the whole convention, with only Barack Obama even coming close. Dammit, Brian, now I can never respect you ever.

I didn't see the Kids First thing... what is it?

Okay, I respect you for saying that... but you know I see it exactly opposite.Well, one of the effects of basing her political career off her husband's (not to be bitchy about it, not that that's necessarily bad, but that's what she did) is that she's always going to be compared to him. To be fair, it's been a couple years since I've seen her speak at length. ( ... )

Al Sharpton... Ho boy. Okay, let's see if I can summarize how I feel about Al. Basically, the man drives me crazy. I think he sets himself up as a Sean Hannity type pundit too much, and he plays the race card worse than Johnny Cochran. However, at the same time? The dude makes some valid points, and can he SPEAK or can he speak? Damn! The man knows how to bring up the room.

I'd like to see Al do something else in government, something on a smaller scale, to prove he's not all talk but that he can carry stuff out. I think he can.

And Brian Williams is a douche. I miss Brokaw something awful.

Well, one of the effects of basing her political career off her husband's (not to be bitchy about it, not that that's necessarily bad, but that's what she did)

See, we're going into dangerous territory here. I don't believe that's what she's done, at all. I can see where people would make that assumption, but it doesn't jibe with me. Again, I'm in danger of turning defensive and atagonistic, and I really don't want to drag you into that.

Amusingly, the friend who related this to me, vault5151, had already posted it several hours earlier but I still got a few fours because I made a point of making sure my post was further up in the thread. ;-)
