Fan Expo and stuff

Aug 22, 2013 00:34

Fan Expo starts tomorrow, I am going! Fingers crossed that some weird calamity doesn't happen (I have bad luck with that con). I'll be wearing my Top costume again on Saturday, and I can just BARELY fit into it. The failure of my diet/exercise regimen is a huge disappointment to me -- I lost only one or two pounds, despite severely cutting back ( Read more... )

Picking fights much, are they?

Seems like a pretty common thing with them these days :> I'll almost certainly be skipping the DC panels at the con, because a) someone will almost certainly ask about Wally West, and b) DC will say something rude in response. Or sometimes DC cuts out the middleman and just makes a rude joke about Wally.

Remembering how Marvel handled the attempted disposal of Alpha Flight characters a few years ago in the wake of the "Collective" arc in New Avengers. Sounds familiar.

Weight loss sucks so much.

I swear DC is actively trying to driver readers away.

Yeaaahhhh, I've been extremely frustrated. I've been walking about 6 kms every day, and while I'm not starving myself, my brain thinks I am (because the anti-depressant I'm on is notorious for causing a voracious appetite). And I haven't had any sweets in weeks despite being a hardcore sweets addict. Thanks to my crazed appetite I'm pretty much hungry and thinking about food all the time because I've cut back on my intake -- so it's very discouraging to not get any results.

One wonders. One really wonders. Neither they nor Marvel have booths at the con this year, which is interesting. I liked the free sketches we could get there, so it's kind of a bummer that they're gone.

If you've been reading their stuff for more than five years, or you're over 35? Possibly, I fear, with emphasis on the latter. I think some of their upper management is convinced things were better when readers regularly aged out of the target market and didn't look back with as much fondness as started to happen with the audience in the late 1950's and early 1960's.

Paul Pope claims that a few years ago he was told that DC only publishes for "forty-five year old men". That said, I'm slightly skeptical of that claim (or at least that it still applies these days), if only because the reboot surely drove off many people in that demographic and doesn't seem designed to appeal to them.

I'll also probably be going on Saturday (also barring unforseen stuff), so with a bright yellow and green outfit, I may spot you. Now whether I actually manage to say hello, that's up in the air. ;)

I'd certainly welcome the chance to say hello, but only do so if you feel comfortable :) I won't be wearing my glasses, so my vision will be extremely poor -- if you wave I may miss it. However, I can probably be seen from a mile away :>

The layout has changed a lot this year, it's interesting. They're using both the North and South buildings. And there's so much stuff this year that I probably only saw half (if that) the exhibitor floor in a day.

The con was great :D Since then things have been a little rough, but I'll talk about that when I've got time. I hope you enjoy DragonCon! There's going to be at least a Weather Wizard there.

The cats went after another bat, which is the source of many of my current woes. I wish these bats would stay out of the house....

Spandex is very unforgiving, and you could definitely see my extra pounds through the costume this year. Sigh, I hope I can lose the weight for the future.

Huh. What you say makes sense. I actually had resolved to eat more protein because the stuff I've been eating for the last few weeks doesn't make me feel particularly full (and thus I'm probably eating more than I should), but it's tricky for me because I don't eat meat. I've got to find other sources of protein. I wonder how my gut would like protein shakes? Part of the problem is that my IBS doesn't like a LOT of foods and I'm always on a search for fibre, which complicates my eating habits (the number of things I can safely eat seems ever-dwindling). But I think it's pretty likely I don't get enough protein, if only because I don't eat meat.

I will definitely keep this in mind! Thank you! :D

I also struggle with getting enough protein, it's hard to find food that's high in protein but low in calories ( ... )

Yeah, I love quinoa, but am so lousy at making it that I have to wait for Stan to do it :> Beans are another good protein source, and I've got to get back into eating them. Nuts are good, but often high in fat, so it's a tradeoff. We think high fat may be setting off my IBS...although we don't really know, it's just supposition based on my gut's response.

Where do you get your protein shakes? At a health food store, or some other place?
