Fan Expo and stuff

Aug 22, 2013 00:34

Fan Expo starts tomorrow, I am going! Fingers crossed that some weird calamity doesn't happen (I have bad luck with that con). I'll be wearing my Top costume again on Saturday, and I can just BARELY fit into it. The failure of my diet/exercise regimen is a huge disappointment to me -- I lost only one or two pounds, despite severely cutting back ( Read more... )

Huh. What you say makes sense. I actually had resolved to eat more protein because the stuff I've been eating for the last few weeks doesn't make me feel particularly full (and thus I'm probably eating more than I should), but it's tricky for me because I don't eat meat. I've got to find other sources of protein. I wonder how my gut would like protein shakes? Part of the problem is that my IBS doesn't like a LOT of foods and I'm always on a search for fibre, which complicates my eating habits (the number of things I can safely eat seems ever-dwindling). But I think it's pretty likely I don't get enough protein, if only because I don't eat meat.

I will definitely keep this in mind! Thank you! :D

I also struggle with getting enough protein, it's hard to find food that's high in protein but low in calories ( ... )

Yeah, I love quinoa, but am so lousy at making it that I have to wait for Stan to do it :> Beans are another good protein source, and I've got to get back into eating them. Nuts are good, but often high in fat, so it's a tradeoff. We think high fat may be setting off my IBS...although we don't really know, it's just supposition based on my gut's response.

Where do you get your protein shakes? At a health food store, or some other place?

katze gave me a recipe for oatmeal quinoa which is awesome, but the bookmark was on my old pc -.-

I just buy them at the regular supermarket or drug store, just look out, especially for the big boxes of 500g and more, those are usually inferior in quality. just take a look at the label and it should say something like "per portion (including milk) 35 gr protein, 250 kcal, 14 carbohydrates, 5,3 fat" - don't go for less than 30g protein per portion
some contain l-carnitine which is a substance that can help with losing weight. just for orientation's sake, I usually buy tins that contain around 400g and costs around 10 euros, and that's enough for 13 shakes...aka the whole week.
rule of thumb is that the bigger the tins get, the less effective they are: i once saw a huge tin with over a kilo in it - which contained the same amount of protein that my 400g one had
