Oh I agree. I've been called extroverted for enjoying giving lectures and going to group activities (Bible studies, martial arts, etc). And I'm happy to meet and talk with new people. But put me in a social group setting, I'll quietly stand, uncertain. And like you, I'll be quickly drained from being in these large social settings.

It seems there are many more people who are simply "shy until you get to know me" then people who tend to keep to themselves, even amongst friends. Then again, perhaps there are just as many consistently silent ones, and they are just easy to be left unnoticed. I'm probably somewhere between the two... I'm comfortable directing a conversation when know one else will, but I tend to be very submissive when someone else is leading.
