I've been wanting to write about the definition of femininity for a long time now, but it's not an easy thing at all to define.

I have been leaning more and more towards a definition that is based on association/relationship with other people as opposed to anything actually inherent in women.[1] (This also seems to be the kind of definition held ( Read more... )

1. because I forgot to change an LJ-cut heading. It's now fixed.

2. I was originally going to throw in a lot more elements like fire and air, because it some cultures these things are associated with either masculine or feminine qualities. But I didn't finish with that thread because the poll was getting too long.

You don't technically have specific enough terms. For example, lace: a little girl's party dress has lace on it, but so does a really sexy teddy. Flowers: do you mean giving them, drawing them as dots for your i's, or painting them on your walls as decorations? (Also, generally, I think of daisies drawn as more girly, but daisies the actual flower or in a photo as neither). Perfume can smell immature or too mature--or girly and hooker-ish. Or feminine. So when you say click "both" is that to encompass all iterations of said thing?? Because I would probably have put both for all of them then.

You are right that the poll was too general. As I was making it, it got to be too long and complicated, so I just went with it as it was anyhow ( ... )

the poll doesn't really work for me. i mean, i agree there's a difference between feminine and girly, but i'm not sure the question revolves around the items in your poll. interested to see what others say and what else you have to say.

You are right. It simply takes too long for me to ever make a good poll on such topics. I mostly just want to get people and myself thinking.
