Because I'm a fruitcake baker and a fangirl, a friend of mine pointed me to your story, and I just wanted to say that it's absolutely wonderful. I love how layered this is, how you've woven threads of mystery and power and Methos' vast age in with daily and yearly domestic ritual like getting lunch and baking fruitcake. I think, sometimes, as I chop and cream and mix, of the tradition I'm participating in, and when I bake next year I'll remember this story too, in that light.

Plus, you did justice to the incredible hotness that is Methos. He was my favorite HL character, hands down.

*applauds you delightedly*

Thank you! I am delighted that the ritual part resonated with you, and the layering worked.

Your LJ was recommended to me by a friend when I was doing some of the research for this piece, and I have been enjoying your posts.

And yay! for another Methos fan :-) I completely agree.

And as her roommate, I will say that she does address her fruitcakes with a very similar intensity.

Beautiful story; I miss the Highlander series. Yay fanfic!

lferion,

During the last few months I have had the time to come online and catch up with the HL fandom only infrequently. So, I was late in discovering that in the absence of a prompt you were writing about fruitcake, late in realizing the story had been posted on 11-21, late in reading the story once I downloaded it and late in sending feedback. My apologies.

I will confess that I was simultaneously amused and aghast to learn your topic. I might have had fruitcake once or twice as a kid, but if I did, it did not leave a lasting impression. When I think of fruitcake, it is primarily as the butt of holiday jokes. But I absolutely LOVE your story; it really hits the spot. Given the stresses of real life, it is just the sort of comfort fic one needs right now - especially after gay marriage, the cause supported by the livelongnmarry auction, went down in defeat in California.

Great job! mmm-mmm good.

Thanks and happy holidays,
Qatsi101

I am very glad you liked it, and that it met the spirit of what you were looking for.

I did send you a copy in email (to the address from this summer) but perhaps it got lost in the aether.

Thank you so much for letting me know you did get to read it! I hope life lets up a little for you soon!
