Stitches on the face can be more traumatizing, and leave a bigger scar. I am a HUGE fan of steri-strips. I lost a chunk of lip at about 8 years old, and my Mom closed it up with steri-strips. No hugely visible scar, and it was much easier to deal with than stitches would have been. I have also used steri-strips on quite a number of other ouchies over the years, always with good results.

::hugs:: Glad Alex (and you !) are ok. Now you have a great story for him to tell later on about how he split his head open !

I dunno, I was 2.5 when I put the spoon through my lip and 3 when I hit my chin on the side of the pool. Both ended with trips to the er, stitches and yes, scars. I remember moments of both er visits rather clearly, but it wasn't really traumatizing.

Steri-strips, though are the way to go if the cut is small enough for them to work. So much better than the whole pain of an er visit. Sorry he managed to get himself so good, but am glad everybody is doing okay now. It's fun to be a mom, right?

I'm going through one of my own similar scariest mommy moment. Chloe tried to do a back flip into the pool yesterday and came down with her head on the edge of the pool.
She didn't break the skin, but she's got a bruise (we were at a community in-ground pool, not our soft sided easy-set pool).

She cried for a minute or two. I put ice on it. She got right back in the pool and continued to play. I just keep thinking about Natasha Richardson, and internal bleeding, and Rob keeps telling me to chill out, that she's fine. And reading WebMD about head trauma doesn't help.
