State of the world = Blah

I don't know what's up today. I don't feel like getting out of bed, though I probably will in the next 10 minutes or so. I've been laying around for 2 hours. Part of this is I couldn't get to sleep until 5AM. I've been having more extreme than usual insomnia this week... Tuesday night I didn't sleep at all. I went to the gym at 6:30 AM and ( Read more... )

That's not dissimilar with how I'm feeling about this morning.

BTW, have you noticed that while organic valley half pints of heavy whipping cream are ultra-pasteurized, their pints are not?

I hadn't (and would never be the type really) to notice that, but it is pretty odd.

I'm planning a mint cheesecake for this weekend using some chocolate mint from the garden. I see that menthols are waxy so should be extractable in butter... Should I just blenderize the leaves into the cream, mash them up in my M&P, or mash and extract the menthol in butter?

I went searching a few years back, when I was interested in the taste and textural differences between ultra pasteurized and just plain old pasteurized cream ( ... )

As you say, the mint isn't too strong, and I want a mint cheesecake, not a grass cheesecake.

Perhaps if I puree the mint with vodka and then strain through cheesecloth? What I really need is a bead beater for proper cell lysis. Or a sonicator! Ideally I'd lyse the cell wall, but not the inner membranes, and take just the cytoplasm. I imagine the green-taste of plants is in the chloroplasts or the cell wall, but that's has less foundation the more I think about it. But the mint and chocolate flavors are probably in the cytoplasm anyway.

Eh, we all have our lazy days... I would be interested in seeing some of the icons you've wanted to make/have. I'm fairly curious about how my tastes are similar to/differ from other's.

Speaking of icons... I had to sit and think for a second as to who Lexicat was, since I identify all my friends by their icons. It kinda threw me that you didn't use the face one. Well, now that I think about it, if I ever met you, I'd be shocked if you didn't look like your icon...

Some of yours have been pretty great, and I've been seeing others I like around. But as a rule I won't use anyone else's icons, and I don't like people taking mine. What's the point? Icons are supposed to identify who you are.

I need some icons for things I post about... drug design, molecular dynamics, that sort of thing. I might make a couple snarky icons if I come up with general purpose ones I like, but I wouldn't use quotes as a default icon.

And yes, I look strikingly like my icon, though the beard is now gone and my hair is much much longer. But you can consider it to be done up in the chopsticks, which I'm also fond of.
