It makes me want to scream. Is there anything for which Lex was called EVIL, that everyone else on SV hasn't either done, or given someone else a pass for, or both? ANYTHING?????
None at all and that is the reason that I have put Smallville exept from Lex in my black list.
MARTHA is a WHAT??? Good GRIEF. I figured since she'd left the show they were DONE with the crazy there. How is it I'm always underestimating the idiocy of this show?
I'm not sure we've been told EXACTLY what Martha is up to, but she is The Red Queen, whatever that is, and some kind of operative, and the main goal of her operations is to Protect Clark, of course. And all the time she's a US Senator, which is an important position in the government, and she seems to be using funds for armed guards and so on.
I actually like this idea, in and of itself, because I always thought there was something... off about Martha. She made no sense to me the way she was portrayed, because I always sensed something fishy about her, something... manipulative. So, Martha as this, apparently, public official misusing public funds to support her, in my opinion, traitorous agenda to protect her own son, makes perfect sense to me. Of course, it will all work out in the end for Clark. He'll be recognized as this Great Hero, and his mother will be a Great Heroine, and who cares how hypocritical they are or how many people they used and kicked to the curb along the way?
Interesting how Martha Kent, a junior Senator, can even do these things. This show has no bearing to actual reality, which, of course. It's a show about a super hero; but this is just ridiculous. There isn't even any internal consistency.
ITA. The thing is, I personally don't mind it if shows which are clearly fantasy have such story lines. I'm not really going to quibble about someone like Martha having that kind of power when the show is about an alien like Clark Kent/Super... excuse me, Blur. But yes, there should be internal consistency, and if we're supposed to believe that the Kents are so GOOD (Hah!), then Martha shouldn't be working with someone who rapes people's minds. But SV has made this a sign of heroism, for some reason. At least if it's the Kent Cabal who does it.
This SV bent towards "the ends justify the means" is very much OOC for any of the Kents. That was the entire point of Superman. It was just in reference to his powers and abilities and his alien-ness. It was also a reminder of how humanity can and should be. Like, "Look at Superman! He's an alien and he upholds our principles better than us! He has super powers and he DOESN'T abuse them! We should emulate him because we CAN be better!"
I wouldn't mind adding darkness to Clark Kent/Superman/the Kents, but it has to be withing the bounds of his core character. This is him trying to be like Batman or something and failing. This is just anathema to what Superman/Clark Kent and hell, Lois Lane is. Even more galling is what they are doing to the epic love of LL and CK. Lois Lane trusted and was trusted by Superman to such a degree that, as a tactic, she has voluntarily jumped off buildings safe in the knowledge that he would rescue her; and Superman would know that it was truly dire and not her tacking advantage of him. SV
You are so, so right about everything. That was the entire point of Superman. Why would anyone sane want to create a character with almost limitless powers, who then abuses them, and then call him or her a hero? Such people are not heroes, they're terrifying villains.
ITA about Lois and Clark, too. But I must warn you that when I said things like this in another Smallville discussion forum, I was told that I was ugly, couldn't get a man, and was jealous of Lois because she won the love of the most gorgeous hunk of man on Earth. So, you might want to disavow my opinion here. :-)))
I think the evil part of Lex's election campaign was that he was trying to lie about Jonathon Kent to damage his opponent's campaign, which, while not comics!Lex-style psychopathic evil, isn't exactly good.
However.
Maxwell Lord? Pardon me if I've got this wrong - but isn't that the guy who drove Wonder Woman to killing him? By mind-controlling Clark? Wow, our heroes have excellent taste in allies.
. . . Does that mean there's a chance of a Wonder Woman appearance?
That's true that Lex was planning on trying to smear Jonathan, though I believe he didn't actually do it in the end, right? However, this took place, obviously, after Jonathan entered the campaign, and the major reason he entered the campaign, was to fight Lex because he was evil. :-)))
You are totally right about the the 'heroes' taste in allies: Lionel Luthor.
Every time I think, 'Bah! Being in SV fandom isn't worth the trouble!', I come across another intelligent post or comment by someone on this community
