Every time I think, 'Bah! Being in SV fandom isn't worth the trouble!', I come across another intelligent post or comment by someone on this community. :-)))

Yes! This is one of the things that drives me nuts about the writing on SV.

I used to belong to TWoP, and I'd get into discussions with various people, and I'd point out the terrible way the Kents treated Lex, and some of the other members would say, 'But he's Lex Luthor. He's destined to be Clark's worst enemy.' And I'd reply, 'But he's not. Not now. What has he done to qualify as Clark's enemy? All he's done is try to help Clark.' 'Well, he's only doing that to manipulate him.' And this sort of thing would go on and on.

Lex, on SV, never showed signs of being EVIL until maybe the last couple of seasons, and even then, he had, IMO, valid reasons for his behaviour -- the behaviour of Zod and the other Kryptonians, Veritas, the way Clark treated him and then went over to Lionel's side, etc. This must all have looked like a vast conspiracy to take over the world by evil aliens. Yet, the show has Clark, and his cabal, treating Lex as though he were Evil Incarnate. And why? As you point out, because Lex knows/suspects/whatever that Clark may be alien. That was why Ollie tried to kill him, several times. He even told Clark that: 'We have to kill Lex. He knows your Secret.' But by now, at least a hundred people know that. It makes me bang my head against the wall.

Clark is Clark's worst enemy.

Why, thank you! :-) SV fandom doesn't seem that bad to me; most people seem fairly nice so long as you don't bring up a certain character.

There are really people who think Lex was just manipulating everyone? Most of the people I run into, outside of this community, tend to err on the side of defending Lex's actions, rather than claiming he was manipulating people. The early seasons of the show seem to me to be going to great lengths to prove that Lex isn't evil, and is a woobie. Albeit a woobie with some slightly worrying views on people who aren't his friends.

This must all have looked like a vast conspiracy to take over the world by evil aliens. Yet, the show has Clark, and his cabal, treating Lex as though he were Evil Incarnate. And why?
The more I think about it, I really don't think Clark knows that Lex thinks there's an alien invasion. I mean, it's not an obvious connection, to the casual observer, is it? 'He's doing evil things (a number of which are potentially profitable) so clearly he's trying to fend off an alien invasion.' Although, mind you, Clark himself doesn't seem to be all that keen on Kryptonians, which is just sad.

Oh, yes, the people in SV fandom are great, for the most part, compared to a lot of other fandoms I've been involved in. It's not the people that are the problem for me, it's the show, or what it's turned into. Since Lex left, there isn't anything in the show for me, as I don't like any of the other characters. But, because of Lex, I'm still in the fandom. Sometimes, I just wonder why, but then I like this comm, and the people here, so I decide to stick around anyway. :-)))

That's an interesting point, about whether Clark knows why Lex is doing what he's doing. By the time Lex was doing his evil deeds, Lex and Clark weren't really on speaking terms. I think I'm going to pose this as a question for the comm to consider. :-)))
