It was a random thought spurred by a moment of legal research. I was familiar with the topic, but went looking for current data to make sure that I hadn't been outdated, and to get a couple of illustrations.

Absolutely, utterly, completely useless information -- but yes, it's "cool" indeed. ];-)

We watched a show about this on Discovery Channel... sounds very plausible! ...In fact one thing that wasn't mentioned in this thread was that the other planet brought us most of our water, which made it possible for life as we know it.

But humans (aborigines) were on the screen at that moment, so we connect "Climate Change" with humans -- and shudder.

I don't know how valid a theory it is, but I've heard some people arguing that the aborigines burned off most of Australia's forests in an attempt to get rid of the super-monitor lizards, Megalania. Take it as you will.
