We watched a show about this on Discovery Channel... sounds very plausible! ...In fact one thing that wasn't mentioned in this thread was that the other planet brought us most of our water, which made it possible for life as we know it.

The problem with the Discovery Channel is a sin that I committed here -- presenting information with no clear delineation as to what is well-established and what is conjecture

I don't know how valid a theory it is, but I've heard some people arguing that the aborigines burned off most of Australia's forests in an attempt to get rid of the super-monitor lizards, Megalania. Take it as you will.
