I was never out past 7pm in Paris. And even here where I live, I try never to be out after dark. It's sad but again, the female condition has made us rape/attack prone and I guess the security ethics pretty much all over Europe says a young woman should not leave home after dark. How that is possible for working women, I have no idea. But I had to turn down several jobs and skip classes since they ended late and I had no way of getting home but on foot and through the deserted streets

That's pretty horrible. Maybe in addition to that cat thing (which also comes as a dog in unbreakable plastic, if that could get you around some technical difficulties of getting/carrying one..), you could try getting a bike. That way you could get home faster, spending less time out in the dark, and get away quicker if someone tried anything...
