I think the most important things to remember about childcare are that 1) it's a family expense, not just an expense that gets applied to the lower salary (often the woman's). And 2) it doesn't last forever, but you will need your lifetime earnings long after the child in question is long gone from your home

I definitely wouldn't want to stop working, I don't think. I mean, maybe it's hard to say that until I'm in that position? But right now I make decently more than Geoff, and there is no way we could live comfortably on one income. Back when he got fired a couple years ago, living on my income plus unemployment was rough. Plus, I love my job, and I went to grad school to have this career and now I have it and I don't want to give that up.
Anyway, thank you for your wisdom! These are really important things to consider, and I super appreciate hearing from someone who has lived through the steps I'm on the verge of maybe taking. It is sometimes hard to think long-term with finances, but that was a good reminder.
