I'll start! As yumytaffy, beetsbearsbsg and I started to plan the GSD week that I signed them up for against their will, Roda pointed out that it falls almost exactly a year after the three of us a) met, and b) proceeded to climb into a small metal box to test if we'd still like each other after a 16 hour round trip to the Grand Canyon.
Not only did we not murder each other, we also watched April and Andy at the Grand Canyon on our phones while standing at the Grand Canyon (well, Roda and I did while Bri threw rocks at us), watched Sharknado in a Flagstaff motel room, and dealt with a rogue fire alarm at 3am. It was a kind of incredible weekend. And as most of you are aware, it fell at the end of the three months I spent traipsing around the USA, trying to meet as many leslie_ben members as I could (before being reunited with the European contingent

I'm so sad about that too! But on the plus side, that means that I still get to look forward to meeting you for the first time at some point in the future :)
GLPG have created our own family, something I am eternally grateful for. Instead of "my friends from the internet," they're just my friends.
We've been through a lot together, and even though emilyla still tries to feed me vegetables, and saucydiva pushes everyone out of their comfort zone, we've had a lot of fun. Welcoming ballroom_pink into our fold has been one of the best things we could have done.
Seeing rikyl and kyrieanne on occasion has also been great. <3
But seriously, I'm still trying to figure out what to say in my card, because WHAT IS THERE TO SAY? The community that we created here gave me the confidence to move across the country without a job. That's terrifying, but amazing. In my weakest moments, I say I don't have a support system, but I do. I really do.
I have an "I love you awesome nerds" tag on my Tumblr just for things of this nature, and I think y'all have seen my thank-you card by now, but I do want to add this:
I de-lurked from this community just a couple of months before I left D.C. to move to Boston. The DCPG, whom I met once before the move, were awesome and fun, and I wished I'd gotten to know them sooner. But then I moved (and didn't find out about scullyseviltwin's existence for almost a year for some reason). And I knew a couple of people in Boston and I met a few more, and what with the new job, I think I'm finally happy to be living here. But I never really found what I had had in D.C., which was a group of girls that I just clicked with--my so-called "Cards Against Humanity team." (And frankly, most of that group had left D.C. or gotten themselves into serious relationships by the time I left, so it wasn't like I had just left that behind

I am writing this from angelica_rules's apartment, where she has left me to my own devices. I'm on vacation right now visiting her (sleeping on clubgetright's blow-up mattress), the fourth such vacation where I've basically messaged a member of the community and asked them if they wanted a houseguest. No one wants a houseguest, but courtknees1, americnxidiot, craponaspatula, and stiffleaves all opened their homes to me, and it was very kind

I found this community at exactly the right time, and it means the world to me.
I started watching Parks in mid season 4. It didn't take long for me to find the fic on this community, but after a while I found myself being a total creeper and just reading the Thursday night threads because you all seemed like awesome people. Eventually a post by saucydiva about community guilted me out of hiding, and I tentatively started interacting with more and more people. It was weird. I didn't have a tumblr at the time, and I've never been especially good at putting myself out there, and I didn't think I had much to offer the community seeing as I'm not a content creator? But I did it anyway

Yes, well, for most people (that's to say, people who haven't spent time in Texas) it might be a long story.
For the curious: Bride of Emily got the gun AS A GIFT FOR BEING IN SOMEONE'S WEDDING, BECAUSE THAT'S A THING THAT PEOPLE DO?! And I told him he was not allowed to keep it in the house until he had somewhere to lock it up, so that's the story of how we have a mostly empty gun locker in our basement.
My friend's husband went skeet-shooting with his groomsmen before the wedding (while the bridal party was getting dolled up, and they were a mix of Virginia and Tennessee people, but I don't think he gave out guns...

I kind of love that about this fandom as a whole.
