i agree so much.

i still love the show, but it's missing something that it had last season, i can't even figure out what it is. maybe that this season has been mostly parody/special episodes? Not to mention, the fandom has been so crazy lately. since when was this show about the ships and hookups? i'll still watch, especially because i'm actaully really excited about the finale, but i don't know, it doesn't feel the same anymore.

and agreed with you about Troy's being sexually abused joke. Disgusting, wasn't funny, made me dislike the character last night, etc. All people seem to be discussing is the kiss.

(btw, isn't Jeff "damaged"? he was abused by his father)

Verbally abused I think?

Also, Britta didn't know that.

Britta has become a parody of herself, which is one of the things that annoys me most (even more than Troy's lie... which I thought it was obvious from the very start). She used to be a strong female character, but human, someone who had flaws, but a lot of redeeming qualities too. Now she's just a joke.

Also, I think what's missing is Dan Harmon being all Howard Hughes and writing the whole show on his own. No offense to the writers, but I don't think they really know what to do with these characters half the time.

Yeah, I think it was mostly just verbal abuse and/or neglect. Nothing physical or sexual. Though Britta has hinted at having been molested as a child before (and her father didn't believe her).

Agree so much with Britta having become a parody of herself. I know they wanted to make her "funnier" but somehow that's come to mean that she isn't allowed to be human anymore? What happened to the little black rain cloud? The girl who has trouble fitting in with other women, but is really good at empowering them when push comes to shove? She was so nuanced and I loved her and now I just don't know if I get her anymore.

I have no idea what the issue is because Dan seems to really believe that this season has been amazing and I think it's largely been hit or miss.

Britta is turning into Meg from Family Guy.

I assumed some people would say the same thing because of this episode (I mean, the rest of the season has been pretty disappointing too) but yes... this was a big pile of disappointment, and I wish some of the fans (including me) weren't afraid of telling Dan "please go back to writing the episodes yourself, your staff is ruining your show ( ... )

I didn't think it was out and out the worst episode ever, but it's just like... I used to watch this show with stars in my eyes and now I just sort of... IDK. I feel disconnected from it. I feel like I can't relate to the characters anymore. That they've all sort of become mockeries of themselves. The show's gotten so much more cynical and I hate it ( ... )

I think we need Jeff back to being the main character, because he's what gave the illusion that the group was together. Wanting to have an ensemble-cast show is making them seem divided (like, last night, we had a show about 8-9 people who happend to get together for a minute or two at a restaurant ( ... )

"Troy was sexually abused as a child" except we had to wait until the second act to find out that it wasn't true so the first part it was set up for us to laugh at this dude that, for all we knew, had ACTUALLY been molested? Yeah, that's funny shit right there. Ba-dum tish.

...the worst part about that is that is a gag directly stolen from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (which has its basis in low brow, lowest common denominator humor and is intended to offend/shock the audience). I mean... it wasn't funny then (one of the few episodes I hate, it's just offensive enough to piss me off), why would you steal the bit?

Oh that's right! I remember that episode. And yeah, I can sort of stomach stuff like that with Sunny because - like you said - it is meant to be offensive and horrible and I sort of expect them to fuck shit up in that way, but Community is supposed to really be about... Community and friendship and I feel really uncomfortable with a narrative telling me to laugh at this dude for having been molested. It's... not funny, y'know? And even turning it into: "Oh but he lied about it and now the joke is that Britta is showing him support and affection because of this lie." doesn't make it any better especially since there is some canon backing that BRITTA was molested as a child (though this episode seemed to forget that?). And it's just... what the fucking fuck show? YOU ARE BETTER THAN THIS.

Yeeeeep. This is exactly how I'm feeling right now. I actually missed the two episodes before this one due to circumstances out of my control and never really felt the need to catch up ever? And watching this one, I just felt...nothing at all. I used to really care about these characters and now everything just feels so shallow and repetitive and loveless. The whole molesting thing was THE OPPOSITE OF FUNNY, and I just hate what's happened to Britta. She's my favorite. :( :( :( So yeah, I think me and it are breaking up. Or at least trying out a trial separation.

And the thing is, its lack of quality right now might not be so obvious if it wasn't sharing a night with Parks & Pec, which is, hands down, one of the funniest shows on television at the moment without ever having to be gross or offensive or anything but UTTERLY DELIGHTFUL. <33333

I feel like the show has lost a lot of it's heart this season. At this point it's sometimes really hard to understand why these characters love one another and/or why I should love them. They've completely fucked up everything Britta was in Season One at this point. They've essentially written Shirley out in favor of Chang. And just... ugh. This is the opposite of what I wanted!

And YES. Parks & Rec is FLAWLESS and HILARIOUS and SO WARM. It is the highlight of my Thursdays! It makes me feel the same way that S1 of Community did! Just: LOOK AT THIS GROUP OF PEOPLE AND HOW MUCH THEY LOVE ONE ANOTHER. That is the only plot I want/need.
