Journal - "Community Disappoints Me."
I am considering breaking up with Community.
It's just... this whole year has been largely disappointing. Last year this show was my lifeline. It was the warmest, brightest thing in the world and this year it's just rape jokes and character flattening. Troy and Britta kissed, but it just felt like a hollow victory because LOL Britta's only into dudes with tragic pasts. Uh. Except for Vaughn and Jeff? Oh yeah and remember when the first part's punchline was nothing but "Troy was sexually abused as a child" except we had to wait until the second act to find out that it wasn't true so the first part it was set up for us to laugh at this dude that, for all we knew, had ACTUALLY been molested? Yeah, that's funny shit right there. Ba-dum tish.
So I spent the entire time barely laughing even though I DID like the Pierce/Wu-Mei subplot A LOT and Wu-mei is my forever girl. The Abed plot was whatever and another episode without Shirley playing ANY sort of role just... augh. She can't even play supporting? They couldn't have stuck her in place of Annie's part? Or dialed Abed back and gave Annie and Shirley something fun to do that didn't involve a fucking horrid baby plot? (Oh yeah that baby plot where the child is still from a moment that none of them can even fucking remember and why would anyone ever think that'd be a good story arc????) Remember when Shirley and Annie were badasses? :C
And then compare it to Parks and Rec which just... I laughed the ENTIRE TIME. It was spot on and warm and the best thing on TV.
IDK. I'm not really breaking up with Community. I'm too emotionally invested in these assholes, but ugh. Show you are so disappointing. Harmon seems to think that this season is better than the last, but I still think last season was absolutely flawless. It had a clear arc and the characters were the most important part and it helped me through a shitty part of my life and this year is just... disappointing. :\
