In the Itlaian liberetto there is a little section on the history of the novel: a few paragraphs written in a point of view that suggests it is an extract from a letter written by Hugo reflecting on where he got his inspiration from.

Pattie Russo was one of the Esmeraldas in the London production. She's a pretty amazing singer. She's also pretty well known; I think I actually might've seen her perform live in We Will Rock You at West End Live last summer. Of what I've heard of her as Esmeralda, I really like her. So, the 2009 tour of the Italian version ended in September (finale in the Verona arena naturally), but it is almost certain that it will be returning to tour again in 2010. Woot!
