I have to admit, I skimmed about a quarter of this book. It's just not that good. The hero is cardboard, the word "masculine" is hilariously overused, the writing, plotting, and pacing are all pretty eh

The "hero" of SoGT is not cardboard, the word "masculine" is not hilariously overused, the writing is good, and while the plotting and pacing needed some touching up the last draft I read, they are decidedly not "eh."
You're too close to SoGT to give yourself an honest "uncomfortable truth." You will either think that things are good that aren't, or that things aren't good that are. As you're an artist and it's something you made...you'll do what we all do, and err on the side of "my story is bad and I should FEEL bad!"
This is a mistake. Your story is good, and you should feel good about it. I've been reading sci fi and fantasy since I could read at all, and I've read WHOLE lot of stores that were "just not that good." Yours was not one of them.
