It's Okay To Be Afraid, But It Will Never Be The Same
Ah yes, the meme that won't die. I don't have to be in work until 3 so let's see what we can get through...
I originally had a different couple for this category, but they didn't *quite* fit. But then a couple of days ago, I remembered two people I hadn't thought about in some time...
NOAH 'PUCK' PUCKERMAN & QUINN FABRAY (GLEE)
They 100% fit in as a 'Guilty Pleasure'. For me, at my age, Glee is kind of an embarrassing show to watch. And I don't watch it, really haven't in two-and-a-half-ish seasons, because that show is fucking ridiculous. I truly do think it's meant to be a parody of fanfiction (if that makes sense). And half the time, neither Quinn nor Puck made any sense on their own. BUT WHEN YOU PUT THEM TOGETHER...they really became something else. These two, terrified kids who were facing something scary, and the scarier it got, the more he loved her. The more he loved her, the more it twisted her up inside. That kind of couple is my kryptonite. And with MS and DA back on the show for however a limited run, I'm quasi back in...
Okay, so the original couple for the previous category?
BONNIE BENNETT & DAMON SALVATORE (THE VAMPIRE DIARIES)
They kind of fit for Day 11, but really work better here, because I'm not exactly 'guilty' or embarrassed for being into them, but it's kind of weird for me, because...I don't really like Damon. This has happened to me a few times, where I got into a ship, even while being weirded out because I didn't really like one or both of the people. Now, like with Day 11...I haven't really watched this show in, like, over a year. In my heyday of watching the show, I really didn't like Damon, particularly as a romantic interest for Elena (which is why I don't watch the show now...expect this point to come up again). BUT, his scenes with Bonnie fascinated me, and if I ever mentally swapped places with Elena and Bonnie in my head, all of Damon's devotion made sense to me, and I love seeking out fic and vids and whatnot for them. Plus, there's this added layer of...I don't know, destiny or something with them, with him being the guardian of her family for over a century. I know it's way past the point of happening on the show, but it *was* a thing in the books, so I still sort of keep one eye open to see if they ever play with it.
Oh, I have been so excited to talk about this couple, because I hardly ever do (ha!)
MARY STUART, QUEEN OF SCOTS & SEBASTIAN 'BASH' DE POITIERS (REIGN)
Of all the categories that these two could go for, I really wanted to put them here. Especially if you frame their story in the greater context of the real Mary's history. Look, Bash is the only character on the show who is not based on a real person- the writers must have big plans for him. She had to put her country and duty first, but the true love of her life was the bastard brother of her first husband, the one who was intended to unite Scotland with France and eventually England. And with the context of the show, that Bash and Mary did have this brief moment in the sun where they were happy and eagerly planning their future together and, let's face it, kicking ass and taking names. And then it was all just snatched away, particularly for poor Bash, who was literally forced to watch his love consummate her marriage to his douchey little brother. But I do think that Mary will regret her life, sooner if not later, and I can't wait for all of the delicious angst these two have in store.
BYRON SULLY & MICHAELA QUINN (DR. QUINN, MEDICINE WOMAN)
Oh, this is an oldie-but-goodie. I shipped them *hardcore* as a ten-year-old, and kiddies, you must realize that in 1992, the internet was not a thing. (It was, but I don't think we had a computer for another year or so, and then it was still mainly CD-rom...Raise your hand if you even know what that means.) So I was left with no choice but to bug my parents to talk about this show literally all the time and I wrote terrible fanfiction, with pen and paper, that I can't even remember now (we are talking over twenty years ago after all...dear God). Most of it centered around Dr. Mike being kidnapped or something, or harrassed by Hank (who I didn't learn to love until I was an adult) and Sully charging to the rescue, but he would get a cut or something and she would patch him up. Like I said, I was ten.
