Well I am far past exhaustion at this point. Today I handed in both my world literature assignments and my TOK essay and am now essay free. They've all been looming over my head sine the summer and now they're all out of the way. Extended, world lit 1 and 2, tok, psychology experiment, history essay and mooore. Now all that's left is my english lit ( Read more... )

oooh, tough.

I really didn't want to go to university in London. Partly that's because I live on the outskirts and I wanted to move away. But it's also because the London colleges seem so spread out. I think that a city (rather than a campus) university in a *small* city is probably the best compromise. So in that sense Bath would be great. If you want to keep meeting different people, you want to be in a place with a strong sense of community. The problem with London is that it's so big. When everyone moves out in second year they tend to be all over the place - and a lot of people move home.

On the other hand, I have no idea what Bath is like as a university, having only been there for a day to, er, see the baths. And UCL is a much better university...

I think place is important. If you get there and you decide you don't like your course, you can always switch, but you can't just switch to a different town.

Psychology at Bath is meant to be better than at UCL, and a lot less scientific than which is great. But of course does it sound different saying you've studied at UCL than at Bath? I don't know how people think, and really it shouldn't even matter should it ( ... )

Aww, this reminds me so much of my own dilemma at that time... http://pointless.diary-x.com/journal.cgi?entry=20010420 :)

If I were you, though, I would go with Bath (except I don't know much about the teaching standards of the two - and what I did when I had the same problem was to go for the one that was higher in the league tables). I loved going to a campus university, it was cosy but vibrant with academia; the social life was great, and even when I moved off-campus to the nearest town, I kept bumping into people I knew. I do think it can be hard to be a student in London, largely because it's so expensive and students are poor enough as it is. Also I knew someone who went to LSE, and after they moved out of halls they could only afford to live wayyy out of the centre, in a crappy area with no tube line.

Well that didn't work :p
The Times has Bath as 5th in Psychology and UCL as 22nd. The Guardian has UCL as 4th and Bath as 24th. I don't know!
Royal Holloway is higher than both of those, I think I should just go there and shut up.

Golly, us in London. "7 years on"! Ha, it'd be just like us in our school uniformas, only a lot older and a lot cooler of course. And then we'd get Athena to come down from Oxford, but she'll be too posh for us! Haaa
