Yesterday, I received a copy of a short story. It is not posted on LJ and as far as I know, it never will be. What struck me most about this short story, little more than a drabble, was the intensity of the action, the near complete IC-ness of the characterisations and the ability of the author to craft a story that ended on a note of real honest

I've finally finished high school! I'm off to college...I had sense enough to apply to college in Paris to get me far away from my controlling family, it was an uphill battle though. I remember crying and begging my parents the day the deposit was due, offering to pay for it myself and they said no-without any emotion or concern for me. I'm not quitter though, I called up the school and asked for an extenstion. Eventually, if you push hard enough, things work out. I've missed you, how are you, ari? How are things going? Moving to Europe any time soon?
