Star Trek: I haven't seen any "real" previews for it, but I do know it's based off of William Shatner's book(s), which my mother read and said were fairly decent (cue in the "Ohhh" at the explanation of where I get my Trekkieness, love of books, and sci-fi-geekery...) So it's based on Shatner's books, and Leanord Nimoy helped with the film (producer? I think.) AND he's going to be in it, as well (I don't recall if William Shatner's making a guest appearance or not), so I'm actually fairly excited about the movie. As much as I loved TNG, the TNG movies were.... well, kind of crap, really (except Generations and really how can anyone resist Picard and Kirk together?) So again, yeah, I'm excited

I'm definitely a big Star Trek fan - TOS mainly, but TNG has been growing on me, especially the episodes with Q. I am kind of worried about a new movie, though. The only Star Trek movie that I've seen and liked was "The Voyage Home" - otherwise known as "The Save the Whales One." And yes - my parents were obsessed with Star Trek long before I was born, and they were the ones that passed that love down to me, though largely in the form of James Blish's novelizations of the episodes; not many places have the original episodes, though I've recently found them all online at http://www.cbs.com/classics/star_trek/... )
I've always loved Star Trek IV. But 'Wrath of Khan' is really fantastic as well, and so's the first one (I'm a geek--the concept of "V-ger" is just too good to ignore). And as I said before, "Generations" is absolutely fantastic. Q is also a great character, but I think the thing I like the most about TNG is that they didn't try to type-cast any of the characters; Picard is very different from Kirk, Richer isn't based on Spock, Geordi isn't Scotty, etc etc. Yeah, you've got the same type of people (Data instead of Spock, etc) but there are enough differences that it's not just a remake but an extension. And the only book I really remember reading of my mother's was one of the TOS books, where Kirk and Spock ended up on some planet where the people were actually like... velociraptor type things. It was strange
