So, yesterday we went to our 20 week ultrasound, and baby was VERY active. We saw all the bits and pieces that indicate we are having a healthy baby, but we did not get a clear look at the gender. The tech guessed girl, but didn't want to bet her meager life savings on it. :) She said the baby looked like it was roasting on a spit because it just ( Read more... )

OH AGAIN, I thought you would find this interesting: One of my college friends came back into my life recently, and she has a baby under 1 year old right now.

One of the first things she told me was that her family is giving her shit about breastfeeding. Her kid is big and healthy, and her family keeps telling her that he's "too big" or "fat" and that she ought to FEED HIM LESS. The thing is, he is totally breastfed, and he is definitely not too big in any sense. Also, they want her to quit breastfeeding, I think.

The moral of the story is, her family is really fucked up and thinks she should deprive her healthy baby because they don't think he's skinny enough.

Yeah, it's not possible to overfeed a solely breastfed baby. They tend to chunk way up right before walking, and then slim down when they get mobile and start nursing less in favor of solids (food before one is just for fun, so milk is still primary source, but they get so distracted). Also fascinating about booby juice - baby will always eat 1-1.25oz of boob juice per hour on average no matter how big or old they are before one year. The body communicates with the baby via the nipple and saliva, and the content changes to meet baby's changing needs as it grows. New baby milk has much higher fat content and fat content increases right before each growth spurt too.
