I swear to God, my parents just said they were going to "hunker down" because of the hurricane.

Hunker Down.

They have never used that phrase before in their lives. I don't know whether to be proud or scared.

*is somewhat worried about the whole hurricane thing, given that said parents live in Houston and are refusing to leave*

What's wrong with saying Hunker Down?

Nothing, technically. It's just that they never used it before, and it's one of those phrases that pop up really, really frequently during hurricane season, particularly when a hurricane is apparently targeting the city you live in. I swear the number of times the meteorologists say it increases exponentially the closer the storm gets. And so it's funny - my parents, learning things from the TV :)
