Ballpoint pen sketches

I've been doing these small ballpoint pen sketches lately, mostly based on photos. They're very small (on A6 size paper each), and ironically enough, I do them to rest my eyes from working too many hours in front of a screen. The frequent change of focus from reference (on screen, actually) to paper does help, though.

I love your sketches. For whatever reason, I particularly like your Edward Said. I think you caught a lot of personality in that little sketch. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie reminds me a little of Eryka Badu; I'll check out her TED talk when I have some time.

I didn't get the likeness right in any of these sketches. I thought Chimamanda was very pretty, she has a bright, intelligent face. In the photos and videos of Erykah I just looked up, she has a self-absorbed look that doesn't appeal to me. On the whole, I judge attractiveness primarily based on a person's expression, and secondarily on how regular/striking their features are.

Edward Said looked very cheerful in that photo posing with his younger sister, and I really liked their dress. You can see it on the wikipedia article on him.
