Pretty Good

44/100: High Noon, by Nora Roberts - This was the first real novel of hers that I've read; the other was a collection of three novellas/short stories.  This one was much, much better.

Her trilogys are better. The Irish Trilogy, Jewels Trilogy, Chesapeake Trilogy, Circle Trilogy and In the Garden are the best of the lot, in my opinion. I have not been as impressed with her stand alone stuff, it seems to be lacking the depth of the trilogy stuff.

Have you read this one yet?

Granted, I haven't read any of her others, but I thought this one had a lot of depth and very well-developed characters.

The heroine is a hostage negotiator for the Savannah PD, who lives with her 7-year-old daughter and her mom, who's an agoraphobe. I thought she handled the mom's illness very nicely; it would have been easy to just make her a crazy shut-in, but she wasn't.

And I'm not a cop or a negotiator, but it seemed to me that the cop talk was authentic without being cliched.

If you haven't read it yet, I do recommend it. :D
