The thermostats in my ancient office building are merely advisory in nature, no matter what I set the one in my office to, the temperature varies between 68 and 78. Many complaints over the years have not helped.
Sometimes an unidentified coworker becomes frustrated and will wander around the office bay and turn ALL of the thermostats either way down or way up, including in other people's offices, which may not help things immediately, but may result in people coming in the next day to find the entire bay intolerably cold or hot.
So, I just keep all the stats in the main bay and my own office at 72 and we experience the plus or minus 4-6 degrees.
"You want us in the office more but you can't even manage the HVAC" is a common refrain.
