Yes, I saw that-- good on you. :)

I figured I should finish up my first round of help_haiti fics before signing up for the second round, but it is tempting...

No, I don't think this is melancholy at all!
It's realistic and quite, quite truthful, and Gwen - and especially Jack - are spot on.
I much prefer this honest type of situation than anything fluffy and you've done a great job with their characterisation.
Thank you!

Thank you! :D I'm so glad and relieved that it works for you. I was trying to think of a situation that would realistically make Jack open up a little bit about caring for Ianto, without it being twee.

This was great. I loved the Stephen foreshadowing by mentioning Jasmine. I remember there is something, maybe Captain's blog? where it says that Ianto is the only one of the team who would talk to Jack after Jasmine.

I have to say I'm still bitter enough (I wonder how long this epic bitterness will last) to actually think I wish Jack had of just done it and Ianto could have had a nice life.

Thank you. I admit, I was definitely thinking of the Captain's blog and CoE when I wrote this.

I rather suspect that post-CoE, Jack wished he'd done it too.

Torchwood and its murky ethics... this was a lovely (for the token significance of what loveliness is) and raw.
Jack often chooses what he considers best for other people - emulating the Doctor much? - but he can't argue with free will, not with Gwen and certainly not about Ianto who is possibly one of the more independently minded ones in Torchwood - he does what he wants and generally speaking, what he wants to do is what Jack tells him :)

Yeah, I went a bit deep into that one. It really resonantes, especially Jack's loneliness *wibble*.

Thank you. I agree that there are some definite Doctor/Jack parallels here -- except, of course, that Jack has someone to stop him here, and that in a twisted sort of way, Jack is more selfish than the Doctor (although, of course, you could argue that the Doctor was being selfish when he saved Donna, because he was putting his own feelings above hers).
