2009 Fic Retrospective

Jan 06, 2010 23:20

This is an exercise in self-indulgence and navel-gazing: a summary of all the fic I posted to my LJ in 2009, with a little blurb about each-what I liked about them, what I didn’t like, why I was thinking when I wrote them, how I feel about them now, etc. Just whatever takes my fancy, really.

indulge me )

writing, fanfic, torchwood, doctor who, fic retrospective, merlin, harry potter, nero wolfe, sarah jane adventures, malory towers

Lol, well, I think it's important to remember that most of these fics are quite short -- my total word count for the year is a lot less than many stories!

but you actually wrote several COMPLETE stories, so that counts
it's not all about wordcount
i mean, at the beginning of the year, i'd say i have a fairly decent wordcount, but i only posted 2 stories this past year that were started/completed in that year

Yeah, but my complete stories were all relatively short and not very involved.

Hello, I've just read your story "Too Many Clothes" and liked it so much I thought I'd have a look at your journal (procrastinating really- I'm supposed to be working) - I'm looking forward to sitting down and having a proper read of more of your fic. Anyway, I know a few people have said this before me, but I really didn't read CofE in the same way as you did: I think Jack was actually very hurt and confused by Ianto's sudden questioning of whether they were a couple or not and because of that he reacted very emotionally rather than being able to stand back and think "maybe he needs reassurance". My reading of it was that Ianto had reached a sort of tipping point at which he'd realised that he wanted their relationship to be more defined, while as far as Jack was concerned, they'd already passed that point ages ago - even though they probably hadn't talked about it ( ... )

Hey, thanks for commenting. :)

I have to say that I LIKE your reading of CoE -- certainly I prefer it to the way I saw things (which is why I still write fic like "Too Many Clothes" in spite of it all). I hope one day I can see CoE in your way (but at the moment I really can't stand to watch it again, so... we'll see).

Hope you enjoy what you find here! :D

I've watched Day 1 a few times but not really the rest even though i've got the DVDs. I love the way Jack, Ianto, Gwen and Rhys interact in Day 1 and the fact that they basically seem happy and settled - even Jack and Ianto seem very happy together as long as they're not thinking too hard about it - and I'd have been very happy if it had just gone on like that for five days with nothing particularly challenging happening to mess it all up - clearly that's not much of a story though!

Right, I've got a cup of tea and a biscuit and I'm going to dive into your fic!
