A/N: I’m not sure why I decided to do this but I was searching for inspiration and some how ended up looking through random types of phobias. So I decided to do a ficlet for each letter of the alphabet. Will include random pairing and groups.

A is for Atelophobia- Fear of imperfection.

BEAST: Doojoon/Hyunseung, (PG), WC-803

With each new routine, each comeback, Hyunseung can be found locked in the practice room at all hours diligently training his body to the new choreography. But there is something about the intensity in which Hyunseung practices that scares Doojoon that causes him to worry. He finds himself perched outside the practice room most nights checking in on Hyunseung. His instinct as leader tells him this is the right thing to do. His intuition tells him to make sure that Hyunseung remains unaware of his presence. There’s this nagging feeling at the back of his mind warning Doojoon that something is terribly wrong with the dancing machine of the group, especially with how increasingly thin the other is growing as each day passes. He misses the way Hyunseung’s once chubby cheeks used to accentuate his smiles, laughs, pouts, and even his frowns. He notices that the younger male’s once rosy complexion is now a lackluster pallor.

These drastic changes frighten the older male as he peeks through the practice room door, watching Hyunseung repeat the same eight count for what seems like the hundredth time. His newly dyed orange-red hair had long ago plastered itself to his forehead from the excess amount of sweat seeping through his skin. His dedication to his career is an admirable trait and Doojoon thinks he should be used to seeing this side of Hyunseung; that it is completely natural for the dancer of the group to strive for such perfection when it comes to learning routines, but the sight of him wobbling dangerously across the dance floor nonstop sets an alarm off in Doojoon’s mind telling him something is not right.

There is definitely something more to Hyunseung’s desire to do his best, to be perfect. His actions are too intense, too extreme for them to be normal and Doojoon only realizes this now. The sight of his group mate struggling on the dance floor combined with his sickly appearance is enough to bring about a response from the leader of the group.

Without thinking twice, he barges into the room and turns the music off to get Hyunseung’s full attention. The dancer freezes and stares wide-eyed at Doojoon while breathing rapidly and swallowing in an attempt to dampen his parched mouth and throat. The two males watch one another intently as if waiting to see who will cave in first. Doojoon’s steely gaze deters Hyunseung from speaking. Instead his eyes drop to the floor waiting for the leader to reprimand him for his lousy skills, poor work effort, or some other fault that Hyunseung sees within himself.

The silence is broken with a heavy sigh from the leader as he moves toward the bright haired dancer before him. “Maybe you should take a break, Hyunseung?” Doojoon suggests.

Shaking his head, Hyunseung mumbles, “I need to practice.”

Doojoon steps even closer. “I think you need to rest.”

Hyunseung picks his head up and makes eye contact with Doojoon once again. “I haven’t perfected this routine yet. I don’t have time to rest.” His voice became clearer the more he spoke. “You’re wasting my time by interrupting me.” He steps past Doojoon towards the stereo only to be stopped halfway by a hand grabbing his arm.

“Please, Hyunseung,” Doojoon pleads. “Just stop this.”

The dancer pulls his arm away sharply. “This is my life Doojoon. I’m a dancer and I’m dedicated to my craft. I can’t just half-ass my way through it. Unlike you, I have high standards for myself.”

The words stab through Doojoon’s core as he watches his friend express his emotions. “But if you keep going on like this you are going to hurt yourself,” Doojoon whispers sounding defeated. “I’m worried about you.”

He pauses with his arm stretched towards the stereo ready to fill the room with the constant soothing rhythm that only music can provide for him. “Don’t be,” Hyunseung replies, pressing play.

Acting on instinct once again Doojoon strides across the room and pulls his group mate into a tight back hug. Resting his head on the shorter male’s shoulder, Doojoon asks, “When are you going to realize how much I care about you?” Hyunseung remains silent as he places his hands over Doojoon’s where they were securely holding him around his waist. “When are you going to understand how perfect you already are?” the leader adds.

Using just enough strength, Hyunseung escapes Doojoon’s grasp. Without a word he returns to the center of the dance floor catching his own reflection in the wall of mirrors. Pausing to catch the beat and take a breath, Hyunseung watches himself scrutinizing his body as he prepares to move with the music only able to notice imperfection after imperfection within himself.

“I have to work hard,” he thinks. “I have to prove myself. I have to be…perfect.”

B is for Bogyphobia- Fear of bogeys or the bogeyman.

INFINITE: Sungjong/Myungsoo, (PG), WC-624

It wasn’t that Sungjong was particularly afraid of the dark or being in a dark room. He was more afraid of what might be hidden within the dark. It was the things he couldn’t see, things that were only whispered about, and things that came in the dead of night to frighten children. In short, Sungjong is terrified of the bogeyman. He always has been and thinks he always will be.

He’s tried everything to quell his fear. He added a night-light to his room to add a soft glow in order to repel anything lurking in the dark. He’s bought numerous stuffed animals to fill up his bed and give him security while he is sleeping. He sleeps with his head under the covers like most children hoping that it acts a protective shield from the demon in the dark on the other side. But even with all of these precautions, Sungjong still finds himself unable to fall asleep with a heavy pounding in his chest and ears, while cowering at any minute sound passing through the night.

His group members have grown weary of his constant whining; especially when he wakes them up from a deep sleep they have waited so long to enter into. Sungjong feels betrayed and unloved when they push him away and ignore his pleas for some sort of compassion in regards to his problem. Instead he receives clipped statements such as: “Why don’t you grow up,” “You’re too old to be acting this way,” or “Go back to bed!”

There is one member who is still somewhat sympathetic to Sungjong’s fear, even though he himself doesn’t understand the whole ordeal behind it. So whenever the youngest finds himself falling prey to the fear of the bogeyman, he quickly makes his way to the bed of the one person who seems to care about him, Myungsoo. Sometimes it’s a real feat to simply make it that far for Sungjong because his fear is so terrible that he finds himself paralyzed within it, but his fear of staying alone is more than his fear of getting out of bed and trekking to the room adjacent to his own.

Myungsoo knows how tough it is for the youngest to show this weakness and to deal with the ridiculing comments of their older group members. He knows it doesn’t help Sungjong’s situation. He knows the youngest is sensative to these remarks and takes them to heart. He also knows that sometimes Sungjong isn’t strong enough to fight on his own, which is why he runs to Myungsoo for assistance.

Sometimes when Sungjong goes to Myungsoo, it’s difficult to wake up the visual of the group, but the youngest is determined in his time of need and works diligently at making sure Myungsoo knows that he’s scared and cuddled up next to him. In most cases, Myungsoo barely opens his eyes to acknowledge Sungjong has suddenly appeared beside him, but it doesn’t really matter at that point because the youngest already feels more secure simply being next to Myungsoo.

What really matters is the way Myungsoo drapes his arm around Sungjong’s waist pulling him close and how Myungsoo curls his other arm around the younger’s head combing through his hair as he snuggles into his older group member’s chest. Because Myungsoo has figured out that Sungjong doesn’t really need reassurance through words in times like these. Sungjong reacts better to soothing caresses and touches of affection.

In reality, Myungsoo doesn’t mind the intrusion caused by Sungjong because he finds the extra body warmth helps him sleep better at night. In the end, they both win because they both end up with a peaceful night’s sleep, which is something all idols desperately need.
