[Richard didn't initially realize what day it was when he woke up. In fact, it didn't even occur to him until he checked the calendar, at which point it hit him like a ton of bricks.

A year. He's been in Luceti for one whole year now. And how much has happened during that year... some of the happiest and saddest moments of his life have occurred ( Read more... )

[Can't really blame the journal for this one. Isamu's been keeping something of an eye on Richard.

He's not sure what to think of this, however, and he stays just at the corner of the blond's vision, watching silently.]

[Richard doesn't even seem to be aware of his presence, at least for the moment, and just continues to play, immersed in the melody. It's cathartic, in a way-- he may be terrible at expressing his feelings in words, but he can put them into his music, as the mournful tone of the tune makes clear.]

[Isamu will just wait until he's done, since it doesn't seem right to interrupt him.

Once he is, he clears his throat.]

[Richard's head jerks up at the sound, startled, his cheeks tinged a faint shade of pink before he quickly composes himself and smiles.]

Didn't anyone teach you that it isn't polite to sneak up on others?

[Have a silent member to the audience, Richard; Kaori's just listening in on his music, listening in on the emotions within it. It was so beautiful and sad, and for whatever reason the sentiments felt horribly familiar. Not that she remembers why, of course.

Once he's finished she'll let out a quiet sigh, still reveling in the music.]

[That sigh alerts Richard to the fact that his journal is open. Once he realizes that, he sets the violin down and goes over to pick it up.]

I'm sorry, I didn't realize that everyone else could hear this.

...You didn't want to be overheard...? [That makes her feel a little guilty, especially with the amount of emotion Richard had been putting into his music.]

No, more like I wasn't expecting it. I'm not exactly in top form at the moment.

[Cielo, this time being too lazy to even bother with sleeping on someone else's couch, had been napping in the cherry tree. The wind may or may not have been his fault. He stirs awake when he hears the violin, but hasn't done anything other than sit up on the branch and listen. He might be a kid, but you don't get to his age without acquiring a taste for culture at some point or another.

Admittedly, he's kind of bothered by how sad it sounds.]

[Unaware of Cielo's presence, Richard just continues to play, lost in the music he's creating. If he can just focus on that, focus on the sound, he can let his mind go blank and forget about all of the other things that have been troubling him.]

[He continues listening for a while, before he decides to interrupt. Beautiful as it is, Cielo didn't like the idea that the player might be sad -- especially when it was someone he'd call one of his. He wasn't a polite audience, anyway.]

Hey.

[That voice is enough to startle Richard out of his trance; he lowers the bow and looks up to see just where it's coming from. The tree, obviously, but he doesn't see the boy right away.]

I didn't know I had an audience.

[Ramirez is polite enough to keep quiet and let him play- at least until the melody ends.]

Something from home?

Yes, you could say that, though it's been a long time since I last played.

I see.

But you're very talented, nevertheless.

Thank you.

Do you play an instrument as well?

[ Sophie happens to have found her way to the cherry tree today by wandering about, and upon hearing Richard's music, made her way even closer to it.

However, she's coming from behind, so she can't see the person on the other side of it well enough to make out that it's actually Richard. She doesn't see this as much of a problem, though, and she opts to just stand there quietly, and listen to him play. ]

[Richard is equally unaware that he has an audience and just continues to play, his mind focused on the music for now. The longer he plays, the easier it is for him to forget all of the things that are bothering him and just lose himself in it...]

[ Still without speaking, she takes a few steps closer, and cocks her head to the side a bit to try and get a better look. All she can really see, though, is the end of the violin.

She just remains there for a moment, now, while getting slightly absorbed in the music. ]

[Though he's out of practice, he's quickly remembering everything he'd learned as a child... it's the sort of thing that never really goes away, and once he'd picked up the bow and started to play, it all came back to him.

At last he finishes the song, standing motionless for a long moment before lowering the violin.]
