Mar 21, 2011 23:59

[Richard didn't initially realize what day it was when he woke up. In fact, it didn't even occur to him until he checked the calendar, at which point it hit him like a ton of bricks.

A year. He's been in Luceti for one whole year now. And how much has happened during that year... some of the happiest and saddest moments of his life have occurred ( Read more... )

[Can't really blame the journal for this one. Isamu's been keeping something of an eye on Richard.

He's not sure what to think of this, however, and he stays just at the corner of the blond's vision, watching silently.]

[Richard doesn't even seem to be aware of his presence, at least for the moment, and just continues to play, immersed in the melody. It's cathartic, in a way-- he may be terrible at expressing his feelings in words, but he can put them into his music, as the mournful tone of the tune makes clear.]

[Isamu will just wait until he's done, since it doesn't seem right to interrupt him.

Once he is, he clears his throat.]

[Richard's head jerks up at the sound, startled, his cheeks tinged a faint shade of pink before he quickly composes himself and smiles.]

Didn't anyone teach you that it isn't polite to sneak up on others?

Afraid not. I must've skipped out on that one.

[He steps closer, hands in his pockets.]

Just find that thing?

[Richard nods, holding it up for Isamu to get a better look.]

Yes, just now in the item store. It certainly came as a bit of a surprise-- I wasn't expecting to see one there.

Didn't know you played, though it's not all that surprising.

Because of my status?

Basically.

[He takes a seat next to the blond.]

When I was a child, I wanted nothing more than to give all of that up.

Had it forced on you, huh?

I meant my status. I always wondered what it would be like to be a normal person instead of royalty... to be able to do what I wanted instead of what everyone else wanted me to do.

Pretty sure it works both ways. Plenty of normal people want to know what it's like being royalty.

Be thankful you aren't.

[Richard's tone goes momentarily cold as he says this, though he's quick to shake that off.]

Freedom is worth far more than wealth.

Some would say that wealth could afford you its own form of freedom. Even I know that's not always true, though.

Then you have to wonder if true freedom is really possible.

True freedom, a world without conflict... maybe those things are impossible dreams. But even so, should we really just give up on them like that?

[He sounds as if he's asking that question as much of himself as he is of Isamu.]
