All things considered, Jenny supposed she ought to have been prepared for this. In the three weeks or so it had been since the first snowfall, she'd been growing increasingly unhappy and she knew it, but that was nothing compared to the way she felt when she woke up on Christmas morning and it really sank in that she would be spending the holiday ( Read more... )

Generally speaking, Daphne was hardly the type of person to laze around in bed all day. She was a woman constantly on the move, looking for the next thing to do. She'd spent most of her life stuck on the same farm in the same part of nowhere; in her mind, she had a lot of lost time to make up for. Christmas proved exception to the rule (this year, at least). Curled up against Matt in the bed he'd given her last January, she'd been perfectly content to stay right where she was for the foreseeable future. Her hut had fared well during the island's most recent makeover, decorated to the nines, and she'd squirreled away enough food for the both of them the day before to make even the short trip up to the Compound unnecessary. Really, the only thing they were missing was some sort of entertainment (and given that they were alone and in bed, it didn't take much creativity on their part to find a suitable way to occupy themselves ( ... )

The fact that he and Daphne were both still around to spend another holiday together almost beat out the fact that they were doing a hell of a lot better this time around in terms of things that Matt was planning on spending the day appreciating. Either way, he wasn't particularly pleased at being interrupted, even if he couldn't help but be a little bit curious as he forced himself to get up.

"Not like I have a whole hell of a lot of people I could have called over."

"Like I'm any better," she replied, sliding out of bed to join Matt. Just the idea of inviting someone like Cable over for Christmas morning was enough to make her laugh, though she kept that thought to herself as she grabbed a robe to pull over her admittedly skimpy attire. Brushing past him (he was, unsurprisingly, moving too slow for her taste), she swung the door open without further ado. Upon seeing that Jenny was the one who knocked, though, her curiosity soon turned into surprise, and then, just as quickly, into concern.

"Jenny," she said, stepping to the side to let the girl in. "Hey."

Somehow, Jenny hadn't quite thought as far as what to do after she knocked. She was almost surprised when Daphne opened the door, and though she stepped inside, she hung back by the doorway, weight shifting from her heels to her toes. There wasn't really any decent way to ask someone to spend Christmas with them, leaving her to stall for as long as she could, lifting one hand in an awkward sort of wave when she noticed Matt nearby, too.

"Hey," she said as she looked back over at Daphne, wide-eyed, visibly hesitant. "You... don't have any plans, do you?"
