Halló, I'm looking for people to help transcribe and translate the lyrics to multiple Icelandic hip-hop and rap songs. My friends, siblings and I want to practice the language with them, but I can't find the lyrics. So if any Icelandic speakers can take some time to just write down the lyrics, it would be amazing! Halló! Thanks, those are all very good suggestions! I'll definitely check out rhinospike.com. I've tried the others, as an international music fanatic I'm used to hunting down lyrics. With Icelandic, it can be tricky sometimes.

As for older Icelandic music, yes, there's tons of it! Especially the Jólalög (Yule music)...I swear there is a Yule song for every person in the country. Jólaküturinn by various singers (Ragnheiður Gröndal, Björk) is a good one. I'll definitely check out Haukur Morthens, if you have any other suggestions let me know.

Although, I think in an age of quickly disappearing languages, it's important for languages that want to survive and have the next generation still learn and use them to actually produce new styles of music that young people are listening to, in the native language. Young people in particular can absorb and practice language well just through listening to it, and maybe be inspired to travel/study there, etc.

Oh yeah. There was some Icelandic site where you'd get a few free songs to download per week from a random selection of their indie bands or something. I forget which site it was, but there's not so many so it shouldn't be hard to find. Hopefully they're still doing that anyway, I last went on there a few years ago.
