I think the real kicker with Icelandic for most native English speakers is that you need to learn to conjugate (beygja) all sorts of verbs and nouns and so on.

If you can't conjugate words, you don't really speak the language like an adult. It does have rules that will seem far-fetched to you at first but will become clearer with time. The paradigms that are available of conjugated nouns will help you to learn the patterns and eventually you can make them yourself when you speak so that you can construct very clever sentences.

Conversation and usage are all that will help you learn how and why to use the different conjugations...they're not hard to figure out given enough time, but they make a huge difference between knowing the language and feeling very confused.
