Thanks to everyone for their good wishes after the last post. I really appreciated your kindness.

This is a story I started almost two and a half years ago. Finally off the hard drive! Thanks to kennahijja for a wonderful beta job, twice.

Summary: When two children are killed in the picturesque village of Beddgelert, Remus is called in by the Ministry ( Read more... )

You know, I loved this. I'm a big fan of detective novels, devoted even; this had all the pacing and the character play of my favorites. The uneasy partnership, the suspects, the quiet setting exploding into violence. Good, solid writing and a Remus I really enjoyed- closed-off and secretive, weary, but still vulnerable and emotional. Plus, I love Moody.

Might have taken a while but in my opinion, well worth the wait.

Thank you! I'm really glad you enjoyed reading it. I love detective-style stories (I read a lot of them anyway!) and there don't seem to be too many in HP fiction.

If you like Sherlock Holmes, you have of course been reading dolorous_ett's magnificent chaptered story, haven't you? (If not, she's just under this comment - click and enjoy!!)

This is fantastic - a wonderful detective story and a brilliant picture of two very tense individuals trying to rub along.

And the ending was a great mixture of pathos and logic. Too tired to gush as this deserves - but I really loved this.

Excellent piece. Moody and Lupin are two of my favourite HP characters, and seeing them working together is great. Liked the suggestion for where Moody got his catchphrase from. Very appropriate.

I love them both, too - they're very well characterised in canon. I'm glad you enjoyed this - thanks!

(I was going to write loads of Moody and Remus post-canon, but hey, life's like that...)

Lovely - a pacy thriller with great atmosphere and two of my favourite characters! I'm not awake enough to offer the detailed comments it deserves - but I did love this. especially the way you weave in setting and the story of Gellert.

Thank you! Two of my favourite characters, too. They complement each other nicely, I think - Moody's gritty cynicism and Remus' tendency to see the best in people. I love stories where they work together.

So that's what Moody and Remus were doing in Snowdonia. I suppose I should have guessed it would be Stapeley from the fact she hadn't been to Hogwarts, and was the only one without any trace of an alibi! (I didn't, although I was fairly confident it wasn't Whitlock or Hackstraw.)

Fun to see Moody losing his leg and gaining his catchphrase, although the curt way he treated Remus was a surprise (after they'd been colleagues in the original Order). Minor quibble is that Fantastic Beasts does talk about Muggle werewolves, although here it does help cut down the number of suspects. :)

You would have guessed Stapely from the first draft - her interview scene was the only one with no conflict at all. Smooth as a baby's bottom... I had to rewrite the whole thing.

I'm not taking Fantastic Beasts as gospel, because it's riddled with inaccuracies (I can't believe I'm commenting on the accuracy of a fictional textbook, even if I do own a copy!!). I thought the original Order was big enough that the two might not have been teamed together - or possibly the influence of Dumbledore helped keep a lid on things. I like my Moody to be very anti-Dark Creatures, and he may well have taken a lot of convincing at the time! (I had planned, you know, to write loads of post-canon Moody and Remus. Eh, well. I know you know how I feel about that, as much as anyone.)

Moody and Lupin (Deceased)?

I lost my copy of FB some time ago (well, it's probably among all the boxes I haven't unpacked yet from my flat move in 2004).
