Why don't they make toasters with only one slot?

no seriously. it would be the best idea for like dieters ever. because I don't know about you guys but I instinctively put two pieces of toast in because there's two slots in the toaster. So why not just have a single slot for poeple who are dieting or living by themselves ( Read more... )

quick lunch hour driveby --

they DO make one-slot toasters! ^_^ this one for example -- they're made for either really long artsy bread or bagels or whatever...

I suppose you could get a toaster oven. But still! It would be so rad.

For people who like aluminum needles, who go to JoAnn's and buy the two dollar plastic straights because they're pretty and bright, who like acrylic because then you can just toss that bad boy in the washer, for people who have a heart attack at the price of Lamb's Pride! Join us, our siblings!

Hear, hear!!

This online store called Knit Happens had this incredibly heart-attack inducing sale, where I ended up buying multiple skeins of Fiesta La Luz, Lorna's Laces Lion and Lamb, Koigu, Alchemy Synchronicity, and Art Yarns Regal Silk, and Noro Silk Garden. One of these days I will cry about all the money I spent, quite possibly when the clapotis that I make from the Lorna's Laces pills and looks worn, or when I have to spend too much money dry cleaning the Fiesta La Luz. I do love expensive yarn, but then there's the practicality of Caron's Simply Soft, knowing that there's no way the recipient can felt it or ruin it by looking at it the wrong way. I think I want to be a yarn snob, but then I'm also one of the messiest people I know, so I should probably only stick to washable stuff. :(

On the issue of practicallity, did you see the most recent issue of Interweave Knits (I think it was?) It had an apron pattern made from Colinette. Who in their right minds would make an apron from Colinette yarn?

*looks it up*

*dies a little inside*

it - it runs at least TWELVE DOLLARS A SKEIN? what the fuck.

I like things to be practical because I have a dog and spill things all the time :< but really Cash Iroha is it's own excuse for being. :< It is so beautiful and I love it so much, but I can't spend 11 dollars for less than 200 yards!

Haha, the only reason I could afford to buy any of this stuff was that everything was at least 50% off, if not more. The Lorna's Laces was like 13 dollars a skein from $32/skein, so I couldn't resist. My bank account cried tears of hate and blood. I will be unable to buy anything else the rest of this academic semester or over the summer except for text books and the occasional sandwich, but it was so totally worth it. I am going to spend every waking moment in my Lorna's Laces scarves, even in the heat of a Floridian summer, damnit ( ... )

I have like fifty dollars of baby alpaca that I have to knit before I can even allow myself to THINK of another luxury yarn purchase. I dunno if you've ever used the Misti baby alpaca? It's a little like knitting with, I dunno, kittens or something. It's all soft and silky and cozy.
