OH MY GOD, I KNOW RIGHT???? OMEGAVERSE IS EVERYTHING I HATE

re: BDSM AU, if you have read the retake by helenish, it is actually very good and precisely an examination of gender roles coded as "Dom" and "sub." But it's never been quite that good again, alas.

Yeah but helenish can write.

most people trying to write this shit, they cannot write.

It makes alcoholism look like a really valid life choice.

You've pretty much described exactly why I flee from mpreg AND bdsm fics. Logically I understand they can't all be quite that horrifyingly bad buuuut... its the kind of thing that grates at me enough I'm not willing to sift through the piles of fics that really are just that awful.

Glad your weekend is going well, though. Mine's just started and I've been impersonating a cat all morning, too. I haven't rolled out of bed at noon in YEARS and it was pretty much the best thing ever.

see, the Household has a running debate over making Tony Stark pregnant (because in certain versions of canon he's got the whole computer system installed and all, and canonically it can rearrange his organs to suit what it needs) and how and why it would happen. Rathany says it would have to be something Tony subconsciously wishes for, I say Extremis is trying to reproduce itself, we both agree it would be as awesome as fuck no matter what. But the point of the story would the effect on Tony (and Steve, because guess who the other parent would be) and not you know, hahaha let's make a dude pregnant!

I LOVE BEING A CAT SOMETIMES. It's been amazing all day.

Hah! Okay there's one other reason I avoid mpreg and it's because I've been terrified of the concept of being pregnant pretty much since I understood what it was (which was quite early on in my life and involved an informative and picture strewn computer 'game' with an Adam and Eve theme). As much as I'd love to stand behind that as a phenomenal way to play with character exploration, humor, and add a ton of family oriented fluff most of the rest of me is convinced it can't be done in a way that will not give me an anxiety attack. Which is to say, it can be all of that for people without my weird phobia, I'm sure of it.

(Seriously, my ex made me watch Knocked Up at one point and it FREAKED ME OUT and is pretty much the reason I've re-vowed to never have children EVER. I'd look into getting my tubes tied if I didn't already know they'd refuse because of my age, single status, and the fact that they hate me.)

Yes. Yes, exactly. I want to take everything you typed -- including the face-clawing, hah! -- and just re-post it. 'Cause that's EXACTLY the way I feel.

Oooooh, pictures of Terra so far? Pwease? I wanna fangirl your skills and eye the pretty and contemplate how much time I don't have to make more things, omg. But yes. I do wanna see!

Yep, what's revealing about mpreg and whatever that Alpha/Omega stuff you mentioned is, it reflects how misogynistic and possessive of the female body our society is. When it's two men -- one forced into the "female" role, then the true sexism is really illuminated. Often you'll see a sense of helplessness in the "female" coded man, like "what is happening to my body," and "I have no choice," and never any option is presented other than delivering a baby.

A little too close to real life?

I'm looking at YOU, Mississippi.

see, I feel bad about complaining because if it's a GOOD bdsm or mpreg fic I eat that shit up like delicious candy, but the badly written ones are like ... I don't know, the one that triggered this one was John and Sherlock, and John was the Omega or whatever, and I'm like, Okay John Watson would be the best mommy. BUT NOT LIKE THIS.

I think what really offends me is that they're like, This character is ~*~struggling against society~*~ and the cruel expectations of biology! and then it turns around and as soon as their ~*~twu wub~*~ shows up they just like.

I mean you expect that out of terrible 1960s romance novels where the hardened career woman is like THIS IS THE MAN I WANT TO GO ALL SOFT AND WOMANLY FOR but. AREN'T WE PAST THAT.

Plus most are really badly written, which causes me even more rage. Insult to injury!
